Excellent primer for beginners,
By Jean Leslie "Jbyrd" (Delaware, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Getting Started Making Wire Jewelry and More (Getting Started series) (Hardcover)
Do I need another book about making wire jewelry?
Linda Chandler and Christine Ritchey co-authored the highly-rate "Woven Wire Jewelry". This is another 5-star book. So I bought the book. Chandler and Ritchey don't start with wire and tools; they take you to the supply section at the bead store then tell you about wire, necessary tools and bead sizes. Next is a primer about safety and posture. The lessons start with the essentials: jump rings, loops, head pins, eye pins and goes into bead wraps, ear wires, coils and findings. There's also a lesson on wrapping briolettes (YES!) and simple wire rings. As a bonus, they includes a wire-embellished greeting card. Every technique has beautiful step-by-step photographs and jewelry showing the technique. There are hints showing inevitable mistakes and tips on how to correct them. This is not only an excellent primer for beginners; it's also a good manual for more experienced wire-jewelers to teach others.

Great introduction to the craft of wire jewelry!,

This review is from: Getting Started Making Wire Jewelry and More (Getting Started series) (Hardcover)
Great title for a good beginner's book on wire jewelry: It really is all about getting started with this marvelous craft. The authors provide a comprehensive text on this subject, including how to shop for beads, materials and tools, safety issues, and basic techniques such as jump rings, head pins and coils plus making your own clasps, chandelier earrings, a spiral bracelet, and much more.
Linda Chandler and Christine Ritchey cover a lot of ground in just 88 pages, offering great advice and instruction as well as close-up, step-by-step photography showing you how to do what they do. I like the Bead and Pearl Bracelet project featured on the cover, and the knot rings as well as the clever handmade toggle clasp. Recommended by Sharilyn Miller, author of Bead on a Wire.

Gets To The Basics,

This review is from: Getting Started Making Wire Jewelry and More (Getting Started series) (Hardcover)
This book was a godsend to me. I work with PMC and use wire to make all sorts of findings. When trying to order wire I had no idea what the various tempers or gauges were and which were used for what. Well, I do now, all because of this book. It starts at the very basics that you need to know, and goes on to show how to make coils, wrappings, ear wires, and on and on. Too bad the publisher hasn't made, at least, the table of contents available to the prospective buyer on Amazon. You may start simply with this book, but it will enable you to create any number of more complicated designs. It's also at a bargain price!

Awesome Resource For Beginning Beaders,

I had read that this book was a good resource for beginning beaders. That was not an exaggeration. Since i have only been beading a short time, this book was a huge help. The author goes completely from wire to tools to how to make your own findings. The directions are very explicit and there are even pictures for every single step just in case the directions arent clear enough. The photos are very clear and there are some beautiful ideas in the finished products. Nothing over complex and very good tips for mistakes or inevitable problems.

Even though Woven Wire Jewelry was more advanced than this great beginners book I had to add it to my library. My favorite projects are the spiral bracelet and knot rings. There are many great things for the beginner and above to learn. Great pictures and facts about tools, sources, safety and products. Projects are easy to follow and have a great range to choose from for a "getting started" book. Another great book from Linda and Christine. I anxiously await the next book.

Excellent for beginners,

This book is an excellent guide for the beginning wirewrapper. If you know nothing of the craft, it is very helpful and precise in getting you started. You'll be able to keep it handy and refer to it often. If you're already familiar with wireworking, it will be mostly a review, with some pretty design ideas. You may find it fun to refer to occasionally if you run into a specific problem. I myself have been wirewrapping for nearly 23 years, so none of the information was new to me, but I really enjoy seeing how other artists approach the craft. I was inspired to try the lovely chandelier earring design. I'm happy to have added it to my extensive collection of wirewrapping books.

This book ROCKS!,

This review is from: Getting Started Making Wire Jewelry and More (Getting Started series) (Hardcover)
I have been making and selling (a lot) of jewelry for the past year, however, I have yet to be able to learn how to make anything with wire. I've bought those useless "wigjigs", countless magazines, looked up instructions online but have been able to make not one thing.
I was in the bookstore looking for ideas for beaded necklaces and I picked up this book. I immediately purchased it and within ten minutes of reviewing it, I made wire coils, my own toggle clasp, a pair of wire earrings and french wire earring hooks! The problem with most books I have found are: They give you diagrams, but if there are six steps, you get diagrams for steps 2, 4 and 6 and they leave out 1,3 and 5. Or, you get one view when realistically you need three dimensional views in order to do what they are describing correctly. This book gives you many different views so you can see the front, back and side of what you are trying to make. I would recommend this book to ANYONE that wants to make wire jewelry. You learn SO quick and I just cannot believe i've waited a year and a half when I could have had this book and been doing it all along! It's not a wealth of designs or ideas, however, it gives you the basic foundation of wire work and the most common wire techniques which allows you to branch off on your own and be able to design things yourself while also being able to NOW understand instructions in magazines or online because you can do the basics.

This book is excellent for beginers as well as the more advanced jewerly artist. This book contains detailed step by step instructions as well as color pictures of each basic - advanced technique. I had purchased Making Designer Bead and Wire Jewelry: Techniques for Unique Designs and Handmade Findings By: Tammy Powley and found this book to be a better bargain dollar for dollar. The instructions are clear and coupled with the pictures to guide you you can easily follow the pattern to complete a project. The projects are beautiful and there are so many useful techniques. This book also has instructions on how to make a few findings.
