Book Description

July 28, 2006
Stone is one of the most beautiful, enduring building materials available. Cody Macfie, a third-generation stonemason and writer whose work has appeared in "Fine Homebuilding" and other magazines, is unequalled at explaining how to work with this wonderful resource. He offers a wealth of information on all the basics, from tools to mortar and site preparation to pattern design. A rich selection of photographs and illustrations show every step of the 20 attractive projects, including a simple and inviting walkway that takes less than a weekend to construct, stately columns at a driveway entrance and a new facade for a fireplace.

great book May 12, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I just finished this engaging book and learned a lot by reading it. The author's straightforward, conversational style and "you-can-do-it" attitude towards the subject really make you want to give it a try. The book is very well organized and laid out, with sections on tools & equipment, types of stone, technique, etc. all preceding the various projects, each of which are thoroughly explained step-by-step. The illustrations and photo's are all excellent and complement the text very well. I don't have any illusions about this book making me into a master stonemason, but it certainly has given me the confidence to start my first project.

This book gets straight to the point on stone and its construction. There are many different projects featured with full color pictures. This book is great for the weekend mason who wants to learn how to build with stone. A picture of my work was featured in this book. I recommend this book for all!
