Even though I teach 4th grade, I am using this book in conjunction with the grades 3 - 5 versionGetting Started With the Traits: 3-5: Writing Lessons, Activities, Scoring Guides, and More for Successfully Launching Trait-Based Instruction in Your Classroom. This version gives wonderful literature based ways to launch a 6+1 Traits curriculum in the classroom. Once my students have mastered the basics, I will move them up to the 3 - 5 activities.
This is also a great resource to allow for differentiating your lessons to reach all learners at their level. I highly recommend this and the 3 - 5 version together.

Yet another resource available to teach the teacher how to teacher kids to write! Lots of buzz words in it (traits, scoring guide, etc. etc. etc.) but I did find some a few suggestions for writing activities to use in the classroom. I used the book for kindergarten and as usual the book concentrated more on second grade which made it not so user friendly with limited suggestions for the early learner. Also I considered it very expensive for what I got out of it. I retired this year ... YEAH! ... so now I have this resource and another bundled in a 2/1 price in my garage sale. No one even looked at them last time. Maybe I'll be luckier this month -- that is, if someone hasn't already reinvented the wheel again. :o/
