About the Author

Brian Kelly retired from IBM as a senior systems engineer in July 1999 after 23 years of active service and a generous seven-year retirement-umbrella leave of absence. As a midrange specialist, he spent most of his IBM career helping clients get the most from their System/3s, System/34s, System/38s, and AS/400s. His specialties included application design and development, DB2 and relational database, data communication, networking, performance analysis, capacity planning, systems programming, and PC Support.

Brian formed Kelly Consulting in 1992 as an IT consulting and education firm. The firm's clients include manufacturers, distributors, mining and insurance companies, and government and higher educational institutions, several of whom are engaged in different stages of WebSphere development projects.

Brian has written numerous articles for iSeries magazines based on his hands-on experience as a consultant and has authored 12 technical books on topics including PC hardware and software, data warehousing, the Internet, email, and WebSphere. He is also a member of the graduate faculty and consultant to the IT faculty at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania -- one of just a few schools that offer an iSeries-based curriculum and also use iSeries technology, including WebSphere, to run the business of the school.
