I first read about this book in the Washington Post and I ended up getting a copy for free! But i wanted to write how this book really breaks down all of your college money worries and makes everything seem manageable. And knowing there are so many other students out there who are having all the same thoughts and issues, and knowing they all got through it, really helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really, really useful!, July 8, 2009

This review is from: Getting Through College without Going Broke: A crash course on finding money for college and making it last (Students Helping Students) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is really great! I bought this book over a year ago for some help in the financial department and man has it helped! It gives advice on summer jobs, working during the school year, applying for financial aid (along with tips on filling out the FAFSA), finding and applying for scholarships (the most useful in my opinion!), and how to spend money wisely without falling into debt. The entire book is full of helpful anecdotes from post-graduate and current college students. They also included a whole list of useful resources (mostly websites) that will help you find free scholarship search engines and government websites. The layout is wonderful and easy to read with concise writing for quick referencing and short attention spans. I highly recommend this book! It deserves more credit than just a couple reviews on Amazon!

Contents:
1. Planning Ahead - talking with your parents, summer jobs, talking with counselor, college applications, thinking about the college debt ahead of time (with some statistics on average debt amount, tuition, etc.)

2. Hunting for Money - finding financial assistance, junior/senior year checklist, looking for loans and scholarships, nailing the FAFSA, writing a successful scholarship essay, avoiding scholarship scams

3. Making the Most of What You've Got - making sure you have all the money you need, planning a college-based budget, comparing schools based on the assistance you found/have, asking for more money from the school,

4. Working for Money - advice on finding decent jobs, quick cash ideas, balancing school and work, work-study programs

5. Spending Wisely - budgeting, working with your dorm partner to save money and furniture expenses, free activity ideas, saving money ideas

6. Saving Moola - bank/ATM expenses and their pros/cons, banking, checking, saving

7. Staying Out of Debt Trouble - credit card advice, pros/cons of having plastic, credit card jargon, keeping the debt low on the card, other useful tips on managing cards

8. The Daily Grind - parting words and advice
