Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I put this book together because I knew that there was nothing out there like it, and many pre-med students were missing out. Unlike many, I was lucky to have two older brothers and a father as physicians. When it came my turn, I had many years of first hand experience at my disposal, and boy did it come in handy. The experiences of my family in applying and getting accepted into medical schools showed me ways to take steps ahead of other applicants. When it was finally time for me to apply to medical school, I had a lot to talk about on applications and interviews, and ultimately choices on where to go.

The purpose of this book is to put together the experiences of my two eldest brothers, my father, classmates, friends, and myself who have successfully applied and entered medical school and provide it to you, the pre-med student. Unlike other books, this book focuses most importantly on developing your pre-med "package", and guiding you through this very important first step in your medical career. There are many ways to follow this book. If you have gotten to this book early, and are still in high school, you’re on the right track. For those who are already in college, and just now encountering this book, start off with the chapters respective to your current year. However, it may still not be a bad idea to briefly review earlier chapters. There you will find information about choosing majors, schools, and more that may still be important for you. Look over the table of contents, and follow deeper into specific sections. Remember, no matter at what stage you are starting, at this point on, dedication is the key. Follow this book with strong dedication and it will show you the road to where you want to be. Good luck.

This book is great. I'm a junior in college, and have had the book for 6 months now. It gives a lot of information about getting ready to apply for medical school. It's very reader friendly, and will guide you through every step from high school to even past your acceptances and preparing for your first semester of medical school. The medical school directory in the back is great. It gives average grades for accepted medical students at many schools, in addition to contact information. The book also offers web links, info on the MCAT, AMCAS, sample personal statements, and great financial aid advice. This book is a great guide to keep in your apartment when looking for answers late at night. I highly recommend the book, and their website online studentsofmedicine.com, which gives a lot of information about being pre-med, and many more resources.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Getting Into Today's Highly Competitive U.S. Medical Schools (Paperback)
I purchased this book because it was the most recently released. Being published in 2003 it included important new changes to the MCAT, and the conversion of the AMCAS application to web-based in 2002, that could not have been included in books published before hand. So far the book gives a lot of important tips, and goes well together with its website www.studentsofmedicine.com. I would recommend the book to others and especially to high school seniors since you can really get an early start on being pre-med, and ultimately getting into medical school.
