This text is easily read and tends towards practical advice. There are any nuber of comprehensive texts, however this book covers the personal aspects of dealing with a disease with an gargantuan effect. Any one who has to deal with this disease would be well advised to purchase a copy.

My Father and my brother have Schizphrenia. I've read several books over the years and I can tell you that this book really opened my eyes and heart and let me know what they have gone through. It's easy to read and not long or boring...I bought a book for each member of the family. Awesome Book!!!

This is the clearest, most hopeful, and comprehensive book I've read on schizophrenia. The book is easy-to-read, yet in 160 pages, it gives a thorough understanding of what a person with schizophrenia has gone through and how to progress to having a good life. The author speaks directly to the patient or family in a kind, sensitive, and intelligent way that empowers the person to fully participate in his or her own care. I especially liked the chapter titled, "How Can I Best Help My Loved One."

the only thing I didn't like was the section of how people were treated in the past.

Everything else about this book was great! Would definitely recommend

I have had schizophrenia for 20 years since the summer of 1994. My mother's mother was born in 1911 I learned from this book that Eugen Bleuler made schizophrenia a diagnosis in 1911. My mother was born in 1948 I learned from this book that Frieda Fromm-Reichmann's now outdated schizophrenogenic mother theory was first made in 1948. My mother's mother was Swedish and Sweden has the Order of the Polar Star and the Order of the Seraphim I have taken Seroquel and Serzone for my schizophrenia. I do not have Bipolar Depression but recently I learned Karl Leonhard made Bipolar a diagnosis in 1957 Jn. 8:57 V8 Original Heinz Ketchup 57 Varieties Bipolar Mania Jn. 10:22-42. In the past 20 years I have also been on Navane, Zyprexa, Haldol, Geodon, Clozaril, Atavan, Risperdal, and Invega. I like Risperdal and Invega the best they are from Janssen and Janssen is a Scandinavian name like my mother's mother was Swedish and Janssen is better than the other companies. I recommend this book and I was in group therapy day programs for mental illness from 1996 to 1998 and 2004 to 2011 and this book helps.
