5.0 out of 5 stars The most collective Drawings and Model Pictures of the Getty Center yet!, August 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Getty Center: Design Process (Paperback)
I am gathering references on the Getty Center, and purchased this book from an amazon dealer at a fraction of the price.

The paperback is bound and covered with the translucent film or vellum.

The Several pages of preface and introduction then the whole series of drawings and pictures continue. And, I thought this is particularly helpful for Architects and Architectural or Urban design students to have a great glimpse to the masterpiece of the west coast. Any record of their art collections, not included. Mostly, Black & white pics of models, not many of the actual building pics. But, you will know that it will be hard to have a panoramic picture of the site unless from the chopper in the sky.

But, seeing is believing, the painstaking works should be experienced, not overlooked in a small scaled models. The empirical perfection cannot be contained in any writing or pictures, including this one.

You should really go out there and experience the space and the fine collections, and the AC, and the cityview of LA and its traffic jam toward Santa Monica.

Then, you will know the built forms excel any drawing or pictures. The real masterpiece, naturally.

If you are going to only get one book. This is the one. For the general progression of the construction(B&W) and built forms as a result in color pics, check out, "Making Architecture, The Getty Center." This will be for the broader readers.

"Richard Meier-Building the Getty" is a narration from the Master Architect with lots of monologues and B&W Pics. A very personal record.

"Antonia Mulas-Richard Meier: The Getty Center" is a total waste of money. a few pics and not enough architectural information. enlarged pictures to show off the pompous photagrapher's pics, who does not even understand the space and pick the essence of the buidings or the site. The image is not even as good as magazine features of this building.

I hope this helps for your shopping list.
