4.0 out of 5 stars The first disc is the better of the pair ! October 2, 1999
Format:Audio CD
I recently purchased the box set and have enjoyed it. They have a nice colored booklet inside with photos from the movie and an overview of the battle. The music on disc #1 is quite powerful. Remember that there are only two basic musical themes to the film: and these are to be found in cuts #1 and #3. The rest of the discs play the theme songs over and over again at different volumes and speeds. The second disc is repetitive and weaker; but when Jeff Daniels reads the portion of the Gettysburg address at the end, you can close your eyes and hear him speaking to the 20th Maine in the film. Being a history teacher and having visited Gettysburg over the past summer, I loved the movie, and the soundtrack provides both easy listening and the chance to mentally replay the film everytime you see it. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best movie soundtrack we have ever heard. October 29, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I have been to Gettysburg with my wife and my sons many times (as visitors from Europe). My late cousin Gen.Phil Kearny is the only person commemorated on the battlefield who was already dead before the battle - see the New Jersay Memorial. So I take the subject very seriously and this score absolutely bowled us over. It is absolutely outstanding and the Cd has been played incessantly since it arrived from Amazon. Randy Edleman is to be congratulated on a superb piece of contrapunctal craftmanship and TNT on having the faith and dedication to complete the film. The reinactors are such a surperb group of people, without whom, this music would never have been written and we would have been so much poorer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A majestic, moving score May 22, 2001
Format:Audio CD
One of the best parts of the epic film "Gettysburg," which chronicles a major battle of the United States Civil War, is Randy Edelman's score. Beginning with his majestic, slightly mournful main title music, Edelman provides a perfect complement to this story of courage, tragedy, and triumph.

Edelman's music is at times suspenseful, at times victorious. There are also passages of tenderness. Overall, the music effectively evokes the personal sacrifice and often conflicted emotions of the men engaged in this struggle.

5.0 out of 5 stars The haunting brilliance of Gettysburg comes alive... October 10, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Randy Edelman has created one of the most beautiful, brilliant, yet haunting soundtracks ever to hit the shelves. The "original" CD is gorgeous--tears may fall during the first track. The diversity of the music, ranging from the quiet, beautiful "General Lee's Solitude" is in quite a contrast with pieces such as "Fife and Gun," and "The First Battle." For a taste of the brilliance and drive of the whole soundtrack, check out "Reunion and Finale," an incredible mixture of all the themes accented by almost deafening, driving percussion and brass.

Fans of the original Gettysburg will definately NOT be disappointed by the addition of the second CD, which features music from the film never before released. "Freemantle and Armistead" is a gorgeous composition from the very beginning. The reading of the "Gettysburg Address" by Jeff Daniels is a wonderful conclusion to the soundtrack. Accented by Edelman's score in the background, it is a very moving work.

Overall, the CD is an incredible, beautiful work, not receiving nearly the amount of credit it should...it is one of the most wonderful treasures hidden amongst the "Soundtrack" racks.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Emotional Musical Score Ever Composed March 7, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This music is absolutely incredible. There are huge, swelling songs like the "Main Theme" and "Reunion and Finale," and softer, more subdued ones like "Killer Angel" (one of my favorites), "Dawn," and "General Lee at Twilight." Another of my favorites is "Men of Honor" (yes, that IS "Men of Honor," not "Men of Morality." I think that reviewer is getting the song mixed up with "March to Mortality", the song of Pickett's Charge). Anyway, it's a completely peerless soundtrack that will put you back into the movie without ever turning on your TV. My mom cries every time she listens to "Reunion and Finale." I listen to this CD at about ten (out of thirty-two), but she likes pushing twenty!

If you enjoy history you liked this movie. The soundtrack for this movie was outstanding! Being a decendent of a Civil War participant I enjoy historical recreations and this movie and its music were wonderful. The most trying time in our nations history and the music accentuated the drama, terror, heroism and even touching the moments. A wonderful 2 CD buy plus a bonus fact and fiquire booklet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, inspirational music July 7, 2005
Format:Audio CD
Gettysburg is without a doubt the best sondtrack out there. I don't live to far from gettysburg so I frequent the battlefield all the time and driving around the battlefield and listening to this soundtrack really brings tears to my eyes. I highly recommend this soundtrack. I also recommend Glory another one of my favorites

5.0 out of 5 stars A must even for folks who dislike movie soundtracks February 16, 2000
Format:Audio CD
Even if you are not a not a civil war buff or Gettysburg fanatic, or even if you hate anything associated with a war, this sound track is STILL a must buy. An absolutely first rate studio orchestra performance, very moving music, classically arranged. Where do many of the musicians go who prefer not to take a chair in a symphony or major network orchestra (e.g. NBC)? They go to studio production jobs. The orchestra and the arrangements are just superb!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music
Even though the movie is so tragic, the soundtrack is excellent. Very moving and wonderful to listen to. I usually play it when I was some great background music without lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie music
The movie Gettysburg is much better than its box office performance. One reason is the music. And this mp3 version nicely reflects the music from the movie.
