5.0 out of 5 stars Only SACD's capture the original master tape sound
I'm sorry, friends, after twenty years of listening, buying hundreds of CD's and an improved stereo I now know CD's don't have enough bits. They don't capture all the sound that was in the original vinyl recordings. 44k and 2 to the 14th power was NOT enough samples (bits). Like looking at an old newspaper picture made out of large dots, it's not like a photo. Like a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, but terribly mastered
Upon hearing the original vinyl pressing, I wanted to have a copy to put my SACD player to use. I was very disappointed in the mastering of this SACD. THe recording levels were much too high, and there was no dynamic range to speak of. There were even times that I could notice distortion. THis was regardless of volume level or between the high end sony and toshiba...

5.0 out of 5 stars Only SACD's capture the original master tape sound, June 8, 2005
This review is from: Getz Gilberto (Audio CD)
I'm sorry, friends, after twenty years of listening, buying hundreds of CD's and an improved stereo I now know CD's don't have enough bits. They don't capture all the sound that was in the original vinyl recordings. 44k and 2 to the 14th power was NOT enough samples (bits). Like looking at an old newspaper picture made out of large dots, it's not like a photo. Like a primitive digital print without enough pixels. Poor resolution.

With 4 times as many time slices (increments) in the x direction and 2 to the 8th power, 256 more bits (increments) in the Y direction, this SACD is the only format which really captures the sound of the original LP or master tape. You cannot hear the difference between this and the LP. It's the real thing.

If you thought CD's sound harsh, or bass-thin, not like a concert, well, you were right!

Beyond that, this album is the second best selling Jazz album of all time, behind Miles Davis "Kind of Blue". A timeless classic of the early sixties. "The Girl From Ipanema" was in the top ten songs on the Rock, Pop and Jazz Billboard charts for over a year in the '63-'64 time frame.

Yeah it's really that good!

Hear Stan the Man effortlessly pour out his soul in the bridge of "Corcovado", for example. As a personal note, this was the first Jazz LP I ever bought, as a clarinet and sax player myself, I couldn't believe how good Stan Getz tone was. And I still love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great work revisited, August 5, 2007

It's hard to beat the gritty-rich presence in the quality of these early pop & jazz 4 track recordings. This is a wonderfully high quality quality recording available in the wonderful format of SACD. Even though it is stereo mix only, I love play this SACD version of this album.

The content speaks for itself, a must have, but it is the SACD recording that takes it over the top!
I have a decent collection of SACD's and DVD-A's, and I put this in the top of the list.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic masterpiece, September 12, 2006
This review is from: Getz Gilberto (Audio CD)
I am a very big fan of Stan Getz. I think is tone is superb and this album captures him at his best. One time Stan Getz said, "He never played a note he didn't mean." This spirit is exemplified in this album.

While the sound quality might not be as good as vinyl as the reviewer below points out, the quality here is still very good. The recording is romantic and the way it was recorded captures the intimacy of the moment.

If you are a Stan Getz fan, this is a must own recording. This is a very sensuous album and the vocals are excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for anyone who is a fan of Stan Getz.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get carried away....., March 4, 2007
This review is from: Getz Gilberto (Audio CD)
Most people born in the last century have heard " The Girl from Ipanema". However, those uninitiated to jazz may have missed the total recording that launched the cabana classic. The sum total is better than its parts.

Even a language barrier is not a problem. My foreign language knowledge rests with Spanish, and then there is very little fluency, so the Portugese lyrics might daunt some listeners. However, it floats along to a degree that I could plug some lyrical parts and still be transfixed by the melodies. All serious jazz fans should have this as a part of their collection, and any interested in exploring couldn't go wrong by giving this a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have!, November 13, 2011
This review is from: Getz Gilberto (Audio CD)
Excellent product! Gilberto and Getz best recording! From all CDs I have from K2HD, this is the best one, no doubt at all! It is of course, a little bit more expensive that the normal recording, but if you have good amplifiers, good pair of speakers, this K2HD remastering will give you sounds you have never experience before.

Gilberto's voice and guitar are wonderful; Get's interpretation is incredible!

A must have CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars SACD, August 27, 2010
This review is from: Getz Gilberto (Audio CD)
Classic album. If you love it then you'll definitely want to pick it up if you have SACD capability - excellent sound. I don't love everything on the album, it's OK if you're in the mood but I do adore The Girl From Ipanema. If you love the song then actually this is could be worth checking out if you can get it cheap. Its never sounded better - awesome. Album & 45 version! Have fun!
