The Dunkin' Donuts from their shops tastes great, but there's some flavor loss when you buy it and make at home.

At any rate, this is a light roasted, sweet and nutty tasting coffee without a hint of bitterness.

We like the Gavalia Traditional Roast very much and are surprised the other reviewer finds it bitter. If anything, we would describe it as rich in flavor and smooth in taste - no bitterness at all. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Having gotten sick of Starbucks-style over-roasted coffees, I've been in search of how to get the taste of Douwe Egberts restaurant coffee at home. To me, Gevalia Traditional Roast tastes closer to that than the "Douwe Egberts Excellent Arome" beans you can buy here do. (I haven't tried the Douwe Egberts Aroma Rood roast yet, so I can't say if that's any closer to the restaurant taste.)

At any rate, this is a light roasted, sweet and nutty tasting coffee without a hint of bitterness. I'm confused by some of the negative reviews for this; I could understand if those comments were for the Gevalia *House Blend* (which tastes like cheap canned Columbian coffee), but they make no sense for this Traditional Roast, which is all smoothness.

I like a nice flavorful coffee that doesn't have to get that way by forcing all the strong acids into the beverage--you know, like coffee house garbage. I drink one cup of that stuff, my breath is deadly, my teeth dissolve, and my heart is about to burst through my chest. Even their half-caff-half-decaff is terrible because the bitter yuck is still there. By the way, French press while flavorful also sends me into coronary failure. No go! To round this out, I also don't care for weak "breakfast blends", either.

At home I've been drinking a toss-up between Yuban and Dunkin' Donuts for a long time--pretty much because that's what I've found most tolerable for off-the-shelf coffee. The Dunkin' Donuts from their shops tastes great, but there's some flavor loss when you buy it and make at home.

So lately I've been getting various other-brand bags just to try since my regulars aren't really my dedicated go-tos. The first Gevalia I tried was their French Roast (rated at their 4 out of 4 beans scale strong) just to set precedence of their spectrum. The flavor was good and reminiscent of a Brazilian coffee I bought in Brazil and really liked and can't buy here, and had a nutty taste, but it was too strong for my daily drink. I'll drink that maybe as the rare after dinner beverage. It was an interesting change from canned/DD coffee.

The next I tried was this Traditional Roast at 2 out of 4 beans. (Screech!) I'm stopping right here. I was just on a random stroll in the coffee neighborhood just to check out the brands with no real purpose. But I found a coffee that is very nutty, bold (not weak), but also SOFT. Actually, it's closer to what Dunkin' Donuts from the actual donut shop tastes like than their bagged shelf stuff. By the way, I drink with whole milk and sugar.

Next to Dunkin' Donuts original roast, this is my favorite kind of coffee. It has a fantastic aroma when you open the bag or squeeze the air out of the front disk. It has a smooth, good coffee flavor, without weird aftertastes.

When you look at and scoop the coffee, you can tell it is a finer grind and softer compared to, say, Eight O'clock or Folgers, etc. I usually use 1 slightly rounded Tablespoon of coffee per each 6 oz. of filtered water (we put a water spigot on the sink)

I have also tried the "house blend" version from Gevalia, but to me that one tastes bolder and perhaps bitter.

I have a hard time deciding so I like to buy both this kind and the Dunkin' Donuts kind, and alternate bags. This price looks very good, at the local stores this coffee, 12 oz. bag is $7.29 each.

Holy crap, I just clicked on "buying options" since not sold by Amazon - forget it. I am not paying $21 shipping or the inflated prices. I have no idea why someone would offer an online product you can easily buy locally - and charge MORE for it. Duh. I'm going to watch for a local sale.

I personally love this coffee. I used to drink Dunkin Donuts coffee off the shelf but after I drank Gevalia coffee (traditional roast) I fell in Love with this taste. It is not too strong and has a mellow slightly nutty taste. It is so UNbitter that I can't believe others have written that it is bitter to them.
I think it must be their coffee makers. A good coffee maker can also make a world of difference. Be sure to get one with a filter built in. No matter, it is the only coffee I drink now. Only draw back is that it is a bit expensive but sooo worth it to me.

Look, if you like coffee like you like energy drinks (think Monster, Red Bull, or the other cough syrup flavored carbonated beverages... so in other words in terms of coffee all you care about is that charred taste that resembles something that just got pulled out of the fire pit at your last night night camping) then this is not for you.

What this coffee is, is a coffee that actually smells palatable from the moment you open the bag, to the time that it's grinding, through the brewing process, and it doesn't even smell half bad when disposing old grounds. As you proceed to grind the coffee, you'll note that it is nowhere near as crazy oily as some of the other coffees out there, and that certainly helps during cleanup time. The brewed coffee is smooth, with a bit of nuttiness, and almost no presence of the typical burned bitterness most often present in other coffees. Is it the best coffee in the whole world? Beats the flip outta me because I haven't had them all, but I've had a lot of 'em and this is a very smooth, nice cup of coffee. It's a great start to the day and it won't leave your gastrointestinal tract screaming for help like some of these other so-called "great" coffees that taste like roasted turpentine poured in your gut.

For my family, this blend is almost the verified winner of the overall family pleaser title, as it's in the top 3 of closest to being able to please all in the family at the same time. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for a coffee that's not trying to impress some self-esteemed challenged public and is just trying to be a smooth cup of Joe.

By the way, I brew this in a Breville YouBrew BDC600XL (bought from here at Amazon) and I typically select the first "strong" setting on the brew strength. For our family... it's a clear winner category coffee!
