Editorial Review

Gex is back on the Game Boy with more tail-whipping fun. As a lizard with an attitude, your goal is to infiltrate 11 TV channels and defeat the evil Rex. You must also aim to rescue the captive Agent Xtra.

Each themed channel is composed of several missions that fit the theme to a tee. As you enter each TV program, you'll also find yourself decked out in the appropriate costumes for that show. Each level has different objectives. For example, in the Holiday TV level, Gex must create five ice sculptures. Tut TV finds Gex riding a raft into an ancient temple, while the Hero TV level requires Gex to rescue three cats and find five escaped convicts. Gex gets a remote control for completing each mission, which he can use to access the Rex-raker boss level.

Gex has his fair share of moves--from tail whipping to tail bouncing and wall climbing--which he can use to fulfill his mission. Gex even does a little snowboarding, too. Gex offers plenty of action to please fans of side-scrolling action games. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Good sense of humor
  • Colorful levels and animation
Cons:
  • Much of this has been done before in other action games

Product Description

While taking a vacation on a remote South Pacific island, Gex receives a call to duty. Rez has kidnapped Agent Xtra, and only the gecko with attitude, Gex, can save her. You must help Gex navigate through 11 levels of action, each with a set number of missions. By completing the missions, Gex will earn remote controls, which he will need in order to make it to the final stage. In addition to the remotes, bonus coins are scattered throughout the game. By collecting them, bonus stages open for even more action. While working his way through the levels, Gex will have to run, jump, swim, glide, and tail-whip his way through the action. Help Gex defeat Rez and rescue Agent Xtra in GEX 3: Deep Pocket Gecko.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gex 3 Deep Pocket Geko is....., January 23, 2000

Gex 3 on Gameboy IS a cool game, but is very challenging. Hard and confusing at first, this game builds up frustration and makes you want to put it down for a while. When you get back to it, you figure out the problem and beat that level with a sigh of realief. I recommend this game to someone over the age of 6 because of hard and confusing it gets, and also because Gex has a big imagination. Gex (which is you) gets zaped into different TV shows. You must capture all 4 channels hidden in the show to win that TV. One TV is 1 level, nearly 30 levels in all. Each Show is different, like Tut TV (Egyptian, find 3 lost arks) or Mars (Space, blast off 5 rockets) or Holiday TV (defeat an evil Santa and elves) and wild west (visit the Largest Mound of Poop on a donkey). Gex talks back to you sometimes, wears outragious costumes, K.O.s enimies with a deadly tail whips, and acts as cool as a geko can get.

This is one of the best games I've ever played! There are so many levels, and things to do, you won't get bored! I've beaten this game a couple of times, and I still play it because it's different everytime! Gete this game, and you won't regret it!

it's an ok game. It's hard, which provides much challenge. I have not gotten very far, so I haven't even used the suction cup paws, but so far the game is ok. The controls are decent, but it is extremely difficult to accomplish missions given to you. It's fun, but very frustrating and the kind of game you don't know what exactly where to go and what to do.
