I wanted to like this book, but it is not an actual history. Every single chapter is written in first person, from the perspective of a historical person. This book is absolutely terrible. I was infuriated when I started reading it, especially since it revolves around a topic I am interested in. Her prose isn't impressive either, and I am pretty sure this was written in English, not translated from Arabic.
