Lyrical and informative, January 20, 2002

I'm in the process of learning about the musical form "ghazals" (traditional songs). The aim of these two artists is to make this older style accessible and appealing to modern listeners. To me, they have succeeded very well in meeting their aim.
This CD presents ghazals in a variety of styles. The CD jacket includes helpful notes as well as the texts of the ghazals. The two vocalists have lovely voices that I found very accessible and agreeable to my American ears. The instrumental accompaniment is varied, interesting, and enjoyable. I was introduced to some instruments I had not heard before, and have since begun to explore.
I enjoy this music as a pure listening experience. However, I also play it while practicing yoga. The slow, flowing rhythms and moderate, serene style serve yoga practice well.
I'm very pleased to have purchased this CD, and I'm currently seeking other recordings by these artists.
