About the Author

Ghalib (Mirza Asadullah Khan) was born in 1797 with Seljuk Turk ancestry. His father and uncle led mercenary troops for various Indian rajahs, but both died by the time Ghalib was nine years old. By assiduous work, he eventually became a respected court poet. He lived through the Sepoy Mutiny of four months, later writing about it, as the British regained control of India. He claimed to be free from the bonds of convention and every religion. He died at age 73.

More About the Author

Sasha "Birdie" Newborn is an editor-publisher (and sometimes translator) of Bandanna Books, originally aimed at the college market, but providing reading versions of classics of literature (with glossary if needed). Also an author of two novels, one book of poems. My most ambitious recent project has been the Shakespeare Playbook series, plays designed for a prospective Director, who needs to keep track of budget, set design, costumes, staging (a sketchbook for each scene), tips for auditioning, publicity, designing a playbill -- all the details that actually go into a play production. Bandanna Books (sometimes banned-anna books) now appear as paper editions, ebooks, and most recently as audiobooks.

Latest book, my own novel, The Martian Testament (audio at www.bandannabooks.com/martian). Latest project, TimeWell, an online litmag that combines contemporary stories, poems, art with classical literature excerpts on the same theme (new theme every month). Try it at www.timewell.us. Send in a story or poem.

Format: Paperback
For anyone who likes Urdu poetry this is a good one Ghalib's imagery in his poetry is very vivid. I love the way Ghalib describes his feelings etc. you can really see it.The only thing i was disappointed about was that in the translation from Urdu to English it loses its power and depth overall it was pretty good. Ghalib was truly a great poet
