5.0 out of 5 stars .... Watching my life go down
For anyone that likes current old fashioned r&b, this is the CD for you. I first heard about Christion, when I saw their first video "Full Of Smoke" on BET. For anyone that likes current old fashioned r&b, this is the CD for you. I first heard about Christion, when I saw their first video "Full Of Smoke" on BET. I later found out that this was the first r&b group that Jay Z was going to have on Roc A Fella records. As soon as the CD came out I bought it because I loved "Full Of Smoke". This CD has something for everyone. They have old school tales of hustlin' and pimpin' and tight midtempo and slow songs about love and relationships. It reminds me of the "Shaft (2000) soundtrack", because all of the songs, although they are new, have a 70s appeal to it. The 2nd single, "Bring Back Your Love" is also an example of that. This is one of the best songs on the CD. After beaking up with a girlfriend or friend, Christion leaves a song as a phone message to the woman explaining how much he misses her and how he wishes they were still together. This is an excellent song. Other highlights are "Midnight X Ta C" which uses a sample from The Beastie Boys' "Paul Revere", "Face Like Yours", "Anything Goes" and the 3rd single, a remake to the Rose Royce classic " I Wanna Get Next To You". Anyone that likes new music with an old scool appeal this is the CD for you. It may even bring back some good memories from the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Knew?, March 22, 2005

That The "Roc" had such a duo up their sleeve! This CD is the ultimate music fest! It's laid back, but not enough to put you to sleep. It thumps but not loudly. The lyrics are serious, the beats are thorough and the slow songs are divine ("Soon" is the bomb). There is just something about this CD that makes me feel like taking a long drive on winding roads of trees and hills in a convertible while a warm breeze blows through my hair!

These guys really put it down on this CD...and it is amazing to me that so many slept on them. It's been over 5 years and I still play this CD alot. When I haven't listened to it in a minute, it seems to call for me! I relax in the hot tub to it, sit by the fireplace in winter and listen to it, and even cook dinner and clean to it! People wanna know...who is that you're listening to..when I tell them they always say..Never Heard of Them...but when I talk about the video..then they say "oh yeah, I remember seeing them," I didn't know they were that nice! So listen up people, there's enough here for everyone to sink their teeth into..."Pull It" is a serious jam packed with a message... "Full Of Smoke" is just suave..and mellow at the same time. Their remake of "I Wanna Get Next to You" is done extremely well! And I like the way they break up the CD by chapters. Very unique and well done! Where are they now though? I hope this won't be their last project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghetto Cyrano, December 20, 2001
This review is from: Ghetto Cyrano (Audio CD)
"Ghetto Cyrano" is one of the best R&B cds that I own. Christion is comprised of two brothers who seem as though they were born with an 'old soul'. "Ghetto Cyrano" reminds me of Marvin Gaye with a little bit of The Time. This is a wonderful cd. "Bring Back Your Love", "Midnight Xtacy", "Full Of Smoke", and their remake of "I Wanna Get Next You" are my favorite songs on the cd. Jay-Z needs to get this brothers back out here!! Quick note: For those who don't know, Christion is signed to Jay-Z's Roc-a-Fella Records. It's been four years already....and I still listen to this cd. I HIGHLY recommend this it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best CD You'll Ever Buy!!!!, January 5, 2003
This review is from: Ghetto Cyrano (Audio CD)
I remember going crazy trying to find this CD. It was only after hearing the songs "Full of Smoke" and "Bring Back Your Love" that i had to have it. I have no regrets. The CD is just perfect for one of those days where you just want to relax or do other things (such as in the bedroom) (wink). Anyway, I love it! I rant and rave about it everyday because bottome line, it's a satisfying CD. IT makes me feel like i'm back in the day. Their music has this back in the day soul with sultry voices of the two to bring adulation to the mood. I can listen to the entire CD all the way through without skipping, where there are some CD's you have to skip over soome songs. Not in this case. IF you buy this CD you will have no regrets. I promise that it will be your favorite just as mine. And ladies, admit it, it doesn't hurt that those brotha's were FIONE!!! Where are they at anyway? Maybe i need to ask Jay-Z!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best R&B debuts of the nineties, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Ghetto Cyrano (Audio CD)
Bay Area duo Christión had one of the best debut R&B CD's of the nineties and it's shame the album went unnoticed. The CD flows along nicely and there's no filler on the CD,unlike most R&B CD's today. The duo first made noise with their lead single Full Of Smoke but the follow up single Bring Back Your Love is really caught my attention, as did the follow up song I Wanna Get Next To You. Other stand out tracks include Anything Goes,Face Like Yours and Midnight X-Ta-C. The main reason why this CD didn't sell was the duo came out at the wrong time and their Parent Label Def Jam was too busy focusing on Dru Hill to give the duo any attention. Be on the lookout in August of this year for the duo's new CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums you've never heard, May 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghetto Cyrano (Audio CD)
To me, this album is a modern version of one of the greatest concept (and overall) albums of all time, Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On'. The topics travel from current 'inner city' life (Pull It, Where I'm From, The Ghetto) to the pimps life (Full Of Smoke) to love (Bring Back Your Love, Soon, Face Like Yours) to lust (Midnight X ta C, Anything Goues, Tonight), and wraps up with a riveting conversation about what man has done to shape the world we live in (Aftermath). I am not a big fan of some of todays sexually charged/Mackadocious R & B, and what really sets this album apart from that is the way the artists counter their sexual feelings with meaningful commentary on what goes on in the rest of their world, whether it's from a first or 3rd persons point of view. Musically speaking now, I thought the deliberately muted, sometimes choppy production of Midnight X ta C was genius, aided by the on-the-phone sound of the lead voice. Come To Me, with it's dreamy keyboards and rolling (what sounds like) upright bass, is beautifully reminiscent of another Marvin hit, Let's Get It On. And Pull It is definitely something Curtis Mayfield could have wrote. This recording is a must-have for anyone who must have something else. Haytide represented

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Relevant!, July 13, 2007

Nu Mantra (Earth, Universe) - See all my reviews

Here it is 10 years after this CD was first released and I am just hearing of these guys. Thank goodness for Amazon Lists! This CD sounds as if it were very recently produced. This says at least one thing about it; it's timeless. So much so that were it released today and actually marketed, it would be an instant hit! This is THE CD that has intergenerational appeal! If you like good music, weather it be slow jams, up-tempo, 70's r and b essence, and/or progressive conscience music, this is it. It is all here and is divided into well-thought out chapters. Here is Marvin Gaye meets, Maxwell, meets Nas. Their rendition of "I Want to Get Next to You" is true to the original with creative touches that only enhances it. Every song has something to offer. The music is original and the vocal style exquisitely silky while maintaining street credibility. The lyrics are fresh and refreshing. Some tell stories of urban city violence born out of desperation, without glorifying it. While others are very sensual, yet respectful professions of their love and desire for their women. This is indeed, as another reviewer has stated, today's What's Going On. This is most evident on "Come to Me" and "Full of Smoke." "Soon" is a powerful anthem to and about future love whenever/however/ with whomever it manifests. "Bring Back Your Love," will remind some of Baby Face's earlier/best songs. There is not ONE song on Ghetto Cyrano that I dislike. If you pay 15.00 for this CD, you would be getting it at a steal! But at these discounted prices all over the Net, just buy several them and give them as gifts and watch the thank yous pour in for your having helped others discover and enjoy such a gem!
