5.0 out of 5 stars best of 1999, July 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghetto Knowledge (Audio CD)
This is the best reggae cd of 1999! The Meditations have done it again with a killer collection of new material. The harmonies are sweet, the lyrics catchy, and the music wicked. Standouts are "Jah Music", "Ghetto is a College", and "Educated Fools." It's nice to see that someone is keeping true roots and culture alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars The New Message from the Meditations, April 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghetto Knowledge (Audio CD)
The "old time something" comes back again in contemporary style on the Meditations' new CD "Ghetto Knowledge." Though the trio rose to prominence as a classic harmony trio in the 70s--reggae's golden era--the album sounds fresh and modern. Its musical foundation is classical roots reggae; socially conscious lyrics set to bubbling beats, with plenty of Meditations-style blended harmonies. To that mix, each Meditation adds his own special seasonings. Each man is a skilled songwriter and sings lead on his songs. Meditation Winston lends his silvery falsetto to "Living on the Edge," Danny a mellow croon to "Ghetto is a College," and Meditation Ansel his burnished tenor to the joyous love song "Never Desert You." In addition, there are fine covers of Marley's "Blackman Redemption" (the trio sang backup on the original), and Curtis Mayfield's "Do Be Down." A satisfying album, and a reaffirmation of reggae's joyous, healing power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning new roots from the legendary trio, April 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghetto Knowledge (Audio CD)
GHETTO KNOWLEDGE has everything a reggae lover would want in a CD. It has live hardcore roots tracks that stand up to the classic reggae of the 70s as well as modern selections. There are too many great tracks to mention here, but some stand out tracks are: The Police; Ghetto Is A College; Black Man Redemption (a remake of the Bob Marley Classic on which The Meditations sang on) and One of Us. This CD is a must for any collection.
