Is This The Beginning Of A Trend? People who Can Sing...?,
By Ms. O "landa324" (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghetto Love (Audio CD)
I'm not one for buying the "what's hot" CDs. BUT -- based on the strength of his single, COULD IT BE, and having the opportunity to hear him sing live, I bought the new CD by Jaheim. When I heard him sing live, they let him let loose for a couple of minutes. Talk about shivers going up and down my spine .... those vocal cords were going! It ought to be against the law for a guy THAT young to have that type of lungs on him!! Talk about a throwback to the days when people knew how to SANG!!! Okay, okay I admit, I wasn't feeling the video too much, nothing really special about it - but that voice? Whew, lawd have mercy! Boyfriend got potential for be around for a long while - that is if they market him right. Gone and let that man sang! This CD is tight! Most of the cuts are good and groovable - I know, not a word. Someone gonna get slapped silly, you hear me? Boyfriend had some major backing behind him with making this album. I gotta give #'s 6, 7, 8, 12, 18-20 special props. I especially love the remix (#21) to COULD IT BE. My only complaints are that the songs are not long enough. Put it this way, the CD gets the LONG DISTANCE TRAVEL award - can't hit the road without it in my player.... Now you can't get any better than that in my book. Could this be a new trend we're seeing? Singers who can actually SANG? I certainly hope so. Cause heaven only knows, we've been bamboozled enough.....

The Future of Soul,

First heard Jahiem on a tune from the Bait Soundtrack call Remarkable the song blew me away.. There hasnt been a singer in a long time that have sing from the soul like this young gentleman upon hearing that tune.. I was highly anticipating his debut CD I must say that CD was worth waiting for this CD went way beyond my expectations.. I knew the CD was going to be nice but i really didnt figured it was going to be truly one of the best r&b Cds so far this year.. Jahiem is a throwback to the old school r&b/soul singers one in particular one of the greatest r&b singers of all times Teddy Pendergrass.. You can certainly hear that Mr. Pendergrass have a tremendous influence on his music.. Teddy Pendergrass influence is evident on such tracks as one of the best ballads on the Cd Waiting On You, Forever, Happiness , Remarkable all these tunes are excellent tunes and it will showcase Jahiem's unbelievable voice.. Other highlights on a fanastic CD: Heaven In My Eyes, Anything( Featuring Next) which is my favorite song on the entire CD, Ghetto Love.. If you love real soul music this is the CD for you .. Hats off to Producer Kay GEE of the Naughty By Nature fame.. You really found something special in this young man Jahiem.. Ghetto Love is a raw, soulful musical experience that you soon will not forget.. Pick it up folks think you will love this

Just in CASE,
By monie w. pinder (Fort Washington, MD USA) - See all my reviews

Just in case you haven't heard this CD, you are missing the best music that I have heard in a long time from the younger generation of musicians. As a mature adult who enjoys listening to mostly ballads, I almost flipped when I heard Jaheim's "Just in Case " on this CD. This song is a good party record in the Washington, D. C. area, and it also speaks of loving the person you're with as if each day is the last. It is a refreshing song when compared to so much of the other meaningless garble that the other young artists are making. The whole CD speaks of Jaheim's talent. His appeal is definitely across the board. It is rare that I enjoy any of the music that today's artists are making because the music has no meaning and no one will remember it twenty years from now, but Jaheim is definitely an exception. I will say he is up there with Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross. Keep up the good work Jaheim and don't ever change your style. I love your voice.

Definitely a tale of "Ghetto Love",
By J. Highsmith (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghetto Love (Audio CD)
I have to admit, when I first saw this song on BET, I did not like it too much. After a few more listens to "Could It Be" and a little convincing from a reviewer "Tony", I decided to purchase "Ghetto Love". This CD definitely has a rough edge to it. It reminds me of Profyle's "Nothin' But Drama". You would think Jaheim was a hardcore rapper when you see him, but he has a little somethin' going on with this CD. Kaygee, of Naughty By Nature fame, handles most of the production and does a good job. Too my surprise, Jaheim really impresses with the slow songs: "Remarkable" w/Terry Dexter actually was on the "Bait" soundtrack, "Anything" w/Next, "Waitin' On You" w/Miss Jones, "Ghetto Love", "Looking For Love" and "Ready, Willing & Able" are definitely examples of this. He also has a few good uptempo songs as well: On the remix to "Could It Be" Jaheim borrows the beat to Craig Mack's "Flava In Your Ear" and makes it a song worth listening to. "Finders Keepers" w/Lil Mo is also a nice uptempo song as well. Overall, this is a nice debut from Jaheim. He seems to be a good frontrunner for one of the leads to the new "Ghetto Soul" movement. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone that liked Avant's "My Thoughts" CD or Profyle's "Nothin' But Drama".

"Could it Be" grabbed me by the ear like you would a child in need of discipline and made me pay attention. This man can sing!! The ladies (Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, N'Dambi, and India.Arie)have been putting it down as of late. How very refreshing and welcoming to hear strength, power and intensity in man's voice. Oh how desperately we've needed a man with strong vocals seperate from the styles of D'Angelo and my man Maxwell (neo soul-which I'm a massive fan of). This brother is singing soulfully, oozes power, demands you to listen. A song that gives you a good taste of such is his duet with Terry Dexter as well as Ready Willing and Able.....Whoa Jaheim, I'm ready too!! My only suggestion is that he ease up off the ghetto fab lyrics and rise up on the more profound lyrics that his voice was apparently put here to deliver. That'll provide Jaheim longevity, I promise. I agree with reviewer landa324 are we beginning to see a trend of people who can sing? Man I sure hope so. Jah, you've got it brother. Let's hear some passion and some love in those lyrics, ADULT style.

Ghetto Love is Slammin'!!!,

This is one of the best CDs'of 2001. Jaheim sings with maturity and strength far beyond his age of 21 years. He best exemplifies his talents on smooth love ballads like "Looking for Love," "Happiness," and the duet with Terry Dexter "Remarkable." But, the entire CD is great from opening to close. I recomend it for anyone who enjoys REAL singing in the tradition of Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross. I caught his show this week at Club Atlantis here in San Diego, and I can tell you that this man can definitely sing!!! His voice is incredible! He is not a studio manufactured singer, like some other so called singers I won't bother to mention. In addition to that I was lucky enough to meet him afterwards, and he is also a gentleman. True soul music lovers will enjoy this CD.

Cant Get Enough!!!!!,

I couldn't wait to purchase Jaheims's cd. Just by listening to, "COULD IT BE" on the radio, I knew this man could sing, but when I purchased the Cd, thats when I learned he can really SANG!!!! I love Jaheim's Cd so much, I listen to it everyday. Nowadays people tend to judge one another from the way one looks, and I heard alot of people say hes a THUG, which nevertheless, I feel, Jaheim has one of the best Cds out today. Normally when you purchase a Cd you may like a couple songs but its very rare to purchase a CD & enjoy it from the BEGINNING to the END. From READY, WILLING & ABLE, to LOVE IS STILL HERE, AND WAITIN ON YOU, this Cd will move you in some type of way.It will not only remind you of your past relationships, but enlighten your present relationship and prepare you for the future ones to come. Each and every person I allowed to borrow my Cd went out and purchased there own. Jaheim not only sings about Love but he throws a lil of everything out there. Jaheim's Cd is definitely worth purchasing. I only wish that "LOVE IS STILL HERE" could have been a full length song, rather than an interlude, but the other songs make up for it. Enjoy and go out and spend the couple dollars it takes to buy the Cd, its worth it.

This cd is the bomb! I love Jaheim's street meets romantic style. This is one of the few cd's I've listened to lately that I can listen to the whole thing w/o skipping around tracks. All the songs are good. Catchy tracks like Looking for Love, Lil Nigga Aint' mine, Just in case, and Could it be remix are wearing out the repeat option on my cd player! The lyrics in Looking for love, Heaven in My eyes, Anything, and Remarkable prove that underneath that tough "ghetto" front, Jaheim is a true romantic at heart. His debut is awesome & I can't wait to hear what he comes out with next. It would be difficult to top this album. This boy's got style. I would recommend this cd to anyone who likes good music- good beats & great lyrics. You gotta check this boy out- you don't know what you're missin.

Can't give this cd enough stars,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ghetto Love (Audio CD)
This man can sing anything. In fact, I could hang out with him for the rest of my life and just have him sing to me. I read most of the reviews on Amazon and noticed that many people criticized the lyrics on this cd. Well, that is just not true. The great thing about this cd is that it brings something to everyone. It brings youth, rhythm and street talk to the mature listeners. It brings romance, tenderness and great, great music to the young listeners. There is virtually no swearing, parents. Some might object to the usage of the "N" word in one song, but, personally, I don't fault people for representing an actual style of speaking or living. My favorites are "Could It Be" for sound and lyrics, and "Ready, Willing and Able." Jaheim's voice is deeper on this latter song, and maybe a little raw. I just can't describe that voice. Although deep, it covers enough octaves that this female reviewer can sing along on the same high notes. I just don't think there is any limit to the music this man can produce, and I can't get him out of my cd player. Keep it coming, Jah, and THANK YOU.

R&B has a new shining star,
This review is from: Ghetto Love (Audio CD)
Jaheim's silky smooth voice is wasted in his hip hop tracks. Several people have compared him to Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross and they can't be more right. His voice has a depth and resonance we haven't heard in a new artist in a long time. Jaheim excels in his R & B tracks on this CD - every one is a pleasure to listen to over and over again. This CD is a must have. I say, "Well done, Jaheim!" I predict Just in Case, Heaven in my Eyes, Anything, Waitin' on You, Remarkable, Ready Willing & Able, Love is Still Here, Forever and For Moms will all be huge hits. You'll be sorry if you miss out on the experience of enjoying and owning this CD. Can't wait for the next CD from Jaheim.
