This review is from: Ghetto [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - Germany ] (DVD)
Nice to see this movie getting widespread release on DVD. Audrius Juzenas gives a unique view of a Jewish theatre group trapped in German-occupied Vilnius. It is a joint German-Lithuanian production presented in English to reach a wider audience. Hopefully, it will give exposure to fine Lithuanian actors like Andrius Zebrauskas, but it is Erika Marozsán who commands center stage as Hayyah, a lovely Jewish actress who finds herself comprimising her position in order to earn the favor of the German commandant, Bruno Kittel. as played by Sebastian Hülk. Heino Ferch gives a compelling performance as Jacob Gens, the infamous warden of the Vilna ghetto, who in this adaptation desperately tries to hold this theatre group together in the face of overwhelming odds.
