Editorial Reviews

Scissors For Lefty offer a polished and multi-layered exploration of danceable beats, synthesized textures and industrial riffing. They attempt to write songs in order to open or close little chapters of their lives. Flirting with disaster, reiterating current events, poking fun at love gone wrong, and making love to slang. ROUGH TRADE.

"Ghetto Ways" is a catchy tune with great lyrics, especially the verse:

"Hot girl status, in a poor girl palace

With a ghetto attitude man

Oh, a trick, you know I'm off limits

You kissed me, now, everybody knows..."

I could have sworn the original version said "Rich girl status" which made more sense to me, because I was told that this song is not about life in the ghetto, but instead about nightclub life in the Mission (San Francisco).

Listening to this song ALWAYS makes me want to dance. After hearing them play live at the Hurricane and Southside Festivals last week, I have an even greater appreciation for their music. This was their first tour of Germany, and they were absolutely amazing. On Sunday, people were still sleeping when "Scissors For Lefty" started the set, but within 15 minutes there were hundreds of kids dancing in the middle of the day!

Each of their songs is completely unique and different, and the lyrics which have been called "clever" are actually much deeper and more meaningful than many of the top indie-pop songs on the charts.

"Ghetto Ways" is definitely a hit tune, but I honestly love "Save it Cory" and "Next to Argyle". Plus, there is also another song that they perform live that where Bryan sings about an "irreconcilable ex-lover" that sounds exactly like a heartache feels. I hope this new song shows up on their second album (supposed to be out in September, 2006).

Compared to the original version on Scissors For Lefty's "Bruno" album (self-released) this version of "Ghetto Ways" is more techno, and definitely faster pace, which makes it irresistible for dancing. But, I do miss the incredible bass solo from the Bruno version.
