— The Ghirardelli Story — In 1849, when Domingo Ghirardelli immigrated to the United States from his homeland of Italy, he had dreams of striking it rich in the California Gold Rush. He settled on opening a tent-store in Stockton, CA, selling various supplies and confections to fellow miners. With his new business proving successful, Domingo decided to open a store and hotel in San Francisco. After a major fire in 1851 destroyed his businesses, he began to rebuild. In 1852, he formed a new confectionery company that would soon become the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. Domingo would be proud to see how his chocolate company has not only grown, but flourished over the years. It started as a dream in the mid-1800s and it is now a thriving company and a leading brand of premium chocolate.

Oh, sure. It's terrific in cookies but, if you really want a treat, try using Ghirardelli's Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips to make a truly delicious hot chocolate!

You can take 1/4 cup of chips and melt them in a microwave in 1/2 cup milk. Stir. Then add another 1/2 cup milk, although the truly decadent will use half-and-half. Add a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of red pepper (yeah, you heard me), and two pinches of instant coffee. Wow!!

Ghirardelli has been making exceptional chocolate in the USA for over 150 years. They take it from the beans all the way to the finished product. Their chocolates are smooth (not grainy). Very nice!

I've been trying all kinds of similar products to enhance my chocolate chip baked goods. Large vs small morsels, chunks, different brands, varied flavors. With these, my search is over. Not overly sweet or bitter, the correct size so I can add a ton or a meager few and a good price here at Amazon. I'll be keeping these around from now on. They also make a great hot chocolate on a cold, rainy night, improve a boring breakfast cereal, and they turn plain old pancakes into an event!

These are the only dairy-free chocolate chips I have found in any grocery store, and they taste great. A tip...I buy them at Walmart for less than $3.00 per bag.
