Editorial Reviews

New Model Army's sound was further expanded with the addition of Mark Feltham's harmonica on 'Poison Street' and 'Ballad.' 'Poison Stet' was released as a 12-inch dance remix and made a dent into that market. 'Heroes,' another song about the differences between generations is the highlight of the album. EMI. 2006. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars After 14 years, they're still the best band I've ever heard., January 31, 2003

This album is still at the top of the list in terms of best all around CD. There's not one song on there not worth listening to.
All of the songs of "Ghost of Cain" pack power and punch along with both rebellious and intelligent thought behind it. As a testament to their music, I know of two metal bands that have done covers of "Hunt" and do it justice.

If I had to put New Model Army's music into a little box and label it, it'd be right there in "Songs to Start Your Own Revolution To". I've listened to NMA for 14 years now and I was lucky enough to see them in their US tour some 10 years ago. I can honestly say that they are more powerful live and in person than in any CD recording you've ever heard. In that performance in Berekeley, Ca. they played "Hunt", "51st State" and "Master Race" and drove the crowd insane.

Buy it, they're an addiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars One heck of an album!, May 1, 2000

I first was exposed to New Model Army as an exchange student in Germany. Although there is much music like this to be found in Europe, in America, this kind of sound has almost disappeared from the wide spread of music we find on the radio and in popular music stores. This is real honest-to-god music with all its rage, passion and individual voice driving your soul. This music begs you to understand political and social wrongs towards the *individual* and makes you actually *think* for a change, something that's hard to find in a world full of Backstreet Boys and Brittany Spears. New Model Army performs truly awesome music that can't be matched by any other artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant., June 1, 1999
This review is from: Thunder & Consolation (Audio CD)
This was the album that first got me seriously into NMA. Granted, I haven't heard all of their albums yet (and there are a lot to go around!), but so far this is my favourite one. I love its themes as well as its musical creativity; the songs are the type that touch you in an almost heartbreaking way. Very thoughtful and heartfelt, reminiscent of early U2 but perhaps even better. It's also one of those rare albums where I actually like just about every song on it. Definitely a masterpiece.
