When I first saw this ebook pop up on Amazon on Friday, I immediately downloaded it and put my scheduled reading on hold. I devoured it this weekend and already can't wait for Book 2 so I can spend more time with Christy, Shadow, and especially sweet little Midnight.

Christy works at a secondhand shop, Memories and Dreams, and is devastated by the recent murder of her boss and beloved cat Midnight. She's in such a state of grief that at first she thinks she's going crazy when Midnight's ghost appears to her, but she soon realizes he's come back to lead her to his killer. I picked up on a clue early on that led me to figure out the murderer, but that in no way took away from my enjoyment of the story. This short mystery contains a wonderful secondary cast including Christy's BFF, a promising love interest, and a town full of interesting characters with secrets of their own.

It looks like Midnight has returned to his beloved mistress and plans to stick around for awhile; I know I can't wait to see what further adventures they will have together.

the book is a fun entry into the cozy genre. i think you probably really need to be a cat person to get it, though. my own cat died recently so i probably related better than most, but that aside the mystery was okay and other than being a little judgemental the heroine likeable. the secondary characters were the best thing in the book. i hope Ms. Beck writes more in the series.

This was a fast read. It is the first book I have read of the Ghost Cat Mysteries. It was enjoyable. Lots of action.

It couldn't keep me going through the first chapter. Very slow moving, very slow start so it lost me fast

I enjoyed the story but finished it in an hour or so. I thought it was a full book and was very disappointed. Everything just moved too fast and there was little character development. I liked the premise enough that I'll probably read the next one - but perhaps just in a bookstore

This book was okay but the characters were not very believable or memorable and the writing style was lacking for me. I have several cats and dogs that I love a lot so I was looking foward to novel involving a "ghost" cat. I think the author was trying to show how much the main character loved and missed her deceased cat, but was a little heavy handed and didn't feel genuine.

Jessica Beck? Her books are great...but not this time. It seemed like she phoned it in and kept losing her place. Characters were flat and colorless and they looked everywhere except AT the clues that were clearly pointed out with neon signs. I started talking to them outloud! The main character replayed unnecessary explanations and scripts of self doubt so often that I was tempted to skip over them...uh, repeatedly.

Ghostly cat antics I can go for, but the minute-by-minute coverage just made the editor look bad. I think the initial idea for the book was promising, but I doubt that the author herself liked this book. Giving a book only two stars may seem harsh but I expected a lot more than I got from this one. Let's let all good kitties rest in peace.

This book was a fast, easy read. The action was simple, the characters were simple and the mystery simple. In the beginning, I found it disturbing that Christy was bothered more by the death of her cat than the death of her boss. Yes, if you are a pet owner you are distraught when a pet dies. But not to the point that you forget that a human also died. As the story went on, Christy was not really that hard hearted. I did not find her "bonding" with her cats believable. More Midnight activity would have been nice.
There were some clues and some detection but nothing was very exciting. Christy seems too scatterbrained and naive to run a store much less a crime investigation. Some of characters around her were interesting but were not particularly unique.
In general, what was written in this book was OK. It would have been much better with more depth and detail. It was like reading a Reader's Digest condensed book.
