Very enjoyable to my ears, January 31, 2006
This review is from: Ghost Dance (Audio CD)
These songs were recorded in 3 days during 1983 for the film "Ghost Dance". The album notes describe the movie as "made in a very improvisational way... exploring the collision between ethnic cultures and western cities." The music can also be described this way. It is percussive, primitive, minimalistic and tribal. Things such as hand drums, kazoos, thumb pianos, bells, voice, and other simple instruments were used and then were (as the notes describe it) "molested by technology".
The electronic sounds used are similar to what you would hear on "The Rhythm of the Heat" and "San Jacinto" from Peter Gabriel's 1982 album Security. Other albums that could be compared to Ghost Dance are Steve Roach & Jeffrey Fayman's Trance Spirits, Peter Gabriel's Long Walk Home, and Muir's opening portion of King Crimson's Larks Tongues in Aspic. If you do not like simple, repetitive, tribal song structures and ambient soundscapes, this is not an album for you. Everyone else, enjoy.

Seeking Drums??, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Ghost Dance (Audio CD)
Well!!, after seeking this CD for a long time at least i found it (used, yes! here in AMAZON - CHEAP!!!!) and.. sounds really great!!!! People who arrived to Michael Giles seeking the sound of KC made a mistake.. i followed the "Drums Masters" from the present to the past, and this seeking began with the new works of Bruford, Mike Portnoy, etc., after i got involved in a crowd of cool drummers-percussionists, like Trilok Gurtu and other guys. Well, i found wath i was lloking for. An album where the drums & percussions are the main stuff. Not the guitar, not the piano or keyboards or vocals. Just the drums... hey man, get 44 minutes concentrated in the phats that the percussions open to your mind......... JUST for guys who follow and smell the cool music coming from drums.

The return of Mike Giles, October 4, 2000
This review is from: Ghost Dance (Audio CD)
A collaboration between Giles and Muir, formerly King Crimson, could be very interesting, but, it is only a soundtrack an end with itself, with the preponderant role of Muir with his percussions. Not really recognizable Giles and his unmistakable style. If you were looking for old King Crimson sound forget it, but probably they didn't want to repeat that original sound. Only for collectors.
