It's About Time!!!!,
By Knowledge Contagion (California - again) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghost In My Head (Audio CD)
I'm not much of a music critic, so this might not be the type of review people would probably look for. But I am a HUGE fan of Jill Hennessy! I've been wanting one of her albums since I heard her songs on the Crossing Jordan soundtrack. This album does not disappoint.
Genre-wise I would say it sounds a bit country and folksy - and I usually can't stand country. She has such a clear, beautiful voice and the passion in her lyrics is evident in every song. One of my favorite songs is "Slow Down" because a song that could easily be sung with derision (with lyrics like "wealthy people looking thinner than the poor") is sung as a matter of fact. The music is just wonderful and definitely adds to the beauty of the lyrics rather than taking away from it or overwhelming it. This is the type of album that can be listened to in any mood. I can't wait for her next one!!

A real gem,
By Lis Itte (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghost In My Head (Audio CD)
This debut album from Jill Hennessy is a remarkable compilation of honest, intelligent poetry brought to life by her raw, smoky voice and brilliant instrumentation. Gutsy and riveting, her band features not only the traditional lead and rhythm guitars (utilized most magnificently), but also cello and accordion. The effect is breathtaking. She managed to gather a phenomenal group of musicians to contribute to this album, even getting the Dixie Chicks' Martie Maguire on fiddle for the song "Holding On." Those who appreciate harmony, acoustics, lyrics, and talent will find "Ghost In My Head" a real gem. What is clear on each and every track is that Jill is an artist who poured her heart and soul (and money) into producing an album that remains true to the music and her artistic intuition rather than pandering to big label marketing ploys. Artists of all mediums will appreciate the genuine love she and the other musicians poured into this CD. Gute Arbeit!

I've been waiting for this for a LONG time!,

I remember hearing Jill sing '2000 miles' on Crossing Jordan YEARS ago, and have been waiting for her to drop an album since then! And this album doesn't disappoint. Her voice is simply amazing, and you can hear the passion in it. This album is something she's put her heart and soul into. The songs and lyrics are also fantastic. All written by Jill, you can tell that these songs really hold a special meaning to her, and are more than simply words.
I highly recommend this album for someone to buy. Especially now, when it seems that all of the popular music is all very similar, Jill's music is like a breath of fresh air. I got mine in the mail this morning, and have had it playing all day. It's fantastic.
