This review is from: Ghost of the Java Coast: (Saga of the U.S.S. Houston (Paperback)
This is a very telling story of a fine ship and a magnificent crew. Mr. Winslow gives a very personal account of his tour on the USS Houston, the events leading up to his posting and the battles that led to her ultimate demise. His honest gut feelings toward his shipmates and superiors give a very accurate account of what the officers and men of the Asiatic Fleet went through during the early days of WWII when the Asiatic Fleet was the only hedge against the Japanese expansion. I am pleased to recommend this book highly to anyone who has an interest in this period of history.
