5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous Chemistry!, December 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ghost and Katie Coyle (Haunting Hearts) (Paperback)
I loved this heroine, Katie Coyle, and was so glad that she found someone better than the stuffed-shirt boyfriend she starts with. When sexy Derry O'Riordan shows up, there's no contest. Her dreams become filled with a heat and energy Mr. Stuffed Shirt could never ignite. It's only a matter of time before dreams of Derry turn into realtime mating dances within the mysterious circle of Stones which stand in the woods behind Katie's charming new home. The irresistable visitor from Ireland always seems to be waiting for her when she walks through the forest... but a few things don't add up. Who is he, really? And why is he so curious about a 19th century nobleman from Ireland who disappeared mysteriously?

Some local intrigue at the college where Katie teaches, along with transoceanic help from her twin sister in Ireland, move this plot along and makes for a fascinating story. Don't miss the hot connection between this cool ghost and Katie Coyle. It's a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ghostly romance, November 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ghost and Katie Coyle (Haunting Hearts) (Paperback)
In 1799 off the coast of Massachusetts, Derry O'Riordan fails to break out of his chains as the ship he sails sinks. His younger brother risked everything for a free Ireland, but the revolt failed. The English convicted his brother and sent him to sail on this slave ship to spend time in an overseas prison community. Derry knew his sickly sibling could never survive. In addition, the lad has a family. The noble Derry replaced him on the sinking vessel. As he nears death, Kerry vows to find his beloved Annie even if it takes eternity to do so.

In 1998, Katie Coyle arrives at Cape Cod's Pond House where she will live for the next two years while teaching at East Bay. Katie meets Mary Monahan who tells her about the ghost and the nearby energy stones. When Katie encounters Kerry the ghost inside the circle of stones, she believes he is an overseas friend visiting Mary. As Kerry and Katie fall in love, he realizes the futility of it all even as she begins to conclude he is not just from Ireland.

THE GHOST AND KATIE COYLE is a spirited otherworldly romance that sub-genre fans will find very entertaining. The story line moves rather quickly with the subplot of college politics adding an earthly anchor. Though likable, the lead couple is the typical star-crossed lovers that populate these tales. The support cast provide a depth and a Cape Cod unique-feel to the plot. With this novel and the enjoyable A ONCE AND FUTURE LOVE, readers will feel that Ms. Kelleher is rapidly ascending to the pinnacle of the supernatural romance field.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ghost Story with a Twist, March 5, 2003
By
M. Rondeau (West Springfield, MA United States) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Ghost and Katie Coyle (Haunting Hearts) (Paperback)
1799 - Derry O'Riordan, the tenth Earl of Kilmartin is imprisoned on a slave ship bound for Austrailia. He is taking the place of his brother Timothy, who was part of a rebel uprising, but because he had a wife, a child and another on the way, Derry pulled strings and switched places with him. Derry's beloved, Annie was lost to him and he felt that he had nothing else to live for. A violent storm blows the ship off course, into the rocks along the Massachusetts coast and Derry, manacled in heavy chains manages to make it to shore, but dies of exposure and injuries received.

1998 - Present Day - Katie Coyle has accepted a position to teach Irish studies at East Bay college in a small town on the Massachusetts shore. Along with the position comes a charming cottage overlooking the sea that Katie Katie had an immediate attraction and a sense of `coming home' to that included on the grounds a ring of standing stones that had Celtic writings on them. After some very sensual dreams Katie founds herself walking in the ring one day, and she happened upon Derry!

This was a ghost story with an amazing twist, that most will find quite interesting. A ghost that when within and a short distance from the ring of stones could be seen by all, not just a few, who was to all intents and purposes solid. Derry was the missing Earl of Kilmartin, a mystery that academia's had been trying to prove for some time and one of Katie's colleagues who was intent on fabricating proof to show him as a traitor. Couple this intense plot with an amazingly tender and beautiful star-crossed lovers seduction and you have a sure fire winner in this paranormal genre!
