Being short story, I do not want to say too much about the storyline in fear of giving anything away. The writing was good, and the general overview is that "astronauts" are chosen on Earth to go on a mission to another planet. A planet 80,000 years away. To accomplish this, the astronauts memories are copied, and their DNA stored, so that upon arrival to this new world a cloning machine can create them anew. Initially, only one of the astronauts is cloned: Gavin, the main character. What he finds on this new world is bizarre and disturbing. In the end, Gavin is given the opportunity to "fix" the mistakes and decisions he made in his new life.

This author has several books available, and this story was enough to make me want to read some of his other work!

With Ghost of the Living, David Wisehart has crafted a fully fleshed out and cyclical story that feel like a novel instead of the short story it is. He even managed to sneak in a few BRILLIANT concepts and ideas. I definitely recommend this book, and encourage others to support short stories!

I would rank this as one of the best short science fiction stories that I have read since at least the nineties. The author's synopsis is fine, so I wont repeat the plot. The writing is succinct yet evocative, and the tone is somber. It took about 10 minutes to read, so no real waste of time if you don't end up enjoying it - but I think that you will.

A very quick, fun read. The story was original, believable and well written. If The Twilight Zone was still on TV, this would make a fantastic episode. I highly recommend this story!

GHOST OF THE LIVING seems to be ready made for a 1960s episode of Twilight Zone. Sent on a mission of colonization, the DNA replicated clone of Gavin Megano finds something truly disturbing when his craft finally makes landfall 80,000 years in the future.

I also give this story of romance, exploration and the technological advance 3.5 stars out of 5 on the following scale:
+ poor read
++ so-so read
+++ good read
++++ excellent read
+++++ life changing read
