5.0 out of 5 stars A Ghost No Longer, January 24, 2001

This review is from: The Ghost & Mrs. Muir (1947 Film) (Audio CD)
I have been a long time fan of Bernard Herrmann, but not of old 40's romance movies. After hearing a suite from "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" I decided to give the movie a try and I loved it. The score is one of Herrmann's first great examples of making romantic music haunting at the same time. Every incidental bit of music enhanced the scene it played in. The final music for when the two have rejoined after Lucy has died bring chills every time. For years, a 38 minute CD was available but not the entire 50 minute score. The CD was also recorded from a record published in the mid 70's conducted by Elmer Bernstein. I am very glad that the entire score has been released and that it the original soundtrack not a rerecording. If you are Herrmann fan, you cannot pass this one up.
