5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT
I saw this book and thought "OOOHHH, I so have to read this", and I am glad that I did.

I love how the author gives us a brief history of each location, good foods to eat, etc. before going on about the actual haunting. Given the history of each place makes these hauntings that much more interesting to read about instead of hearing "XYZ place has a spirit of...

Worth the price???
. . . Not so much!
the "stories" are very very short and have very little substance.
the author is not even a ghost hunter. it's like the publisher's paid this guy to go all over the US w/ his wife and dig up popular folk lore.

I love how the author gives us a brief history of each location, good foods to eat, etc. before going on about the actual haunting. Given the history of each place makes these hauntings that much more interesting to read about instead of hearing "XYZ place has a spirit of an old lady wandering the halls..." I am interested in visiting these places because the author of this book has made everything seem so real and appealing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun, entertaining ghost travel guide, February 4, 2006

This is a refreshing and delightful book written by someone who is obviously as intrigued by ghosts as many of us "ghost aficionados"! He spent much time and money traveling to every state in the country to visit a haunted location- most of them inns or hotels. Mr. Whitington's chapters convey his enjoyment and enthusiasm and make this a fun read as well as a travel resource.

I love this book-- it is fascinating!

Here are *some* of the haunted places that are mentioned:

** The Birdcage Theatre- Tombstone, AZ

** The Crescent Hotel- Eureka Springs, AR

** The Winchester Mystery House- San Jose, CA

** The Stanley Hotel- Estes Park, CO

** The Lighthouse Inn- New London, CT

** Historic Jameson Restaurant & Inn- Wallace, ID

** The Red Lion Pub- Chicago, IL

** The Eldridge Hotel- Lawrence, KS

** The Mason House Inn- Bentonsport, IA

** The LaLaurie Mansion- New Orleans, LA

** The Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast- Fall River, MA

** Lemp Mansion- St. Louis, MO

** Chico Hot Springs Lodge & Ranch- Pray, MT

** The Argo Hotel- Crofton, NE

** Luxor Hotel & Casino- Las Vegas, NV

** Luna Mansion- Los Lunas, NM

** Chumley's- NY, NY

** Ben Lomond Historic Suite Hotel- Ogden, UT

** Rosario Resort- Eastsound, WA

** The Irma Hotel- Cody, WY

There are MANY more haunted locations in this book. Also there are many B&W photos in the book.

One of my favorite stories was the one at the Irma in Cody, WY. The author and his wife personally experienced a ghostly phenomenon there in their room.

I was absolutely chilled when I read that story!
It was VERY C-R-E-E-P-Y!

I have been to several of the hotels listed in this book.
One of the ones I've been to is the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence, KS.
They actually have a photo there that they keep behind the front desk that someone took of a ghost in the elevator.
I've seen that picture- It's VERY EERIE. (I wasn't fortunate enough, though, to catch a glimpse of a ghost there with my own eyes!)

~~~~~The author includes a haunted site for each of the 50 states. Mitchel Whitington is totally believable and 100% credible. All of these stories are true.
He is a great writer!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
most of the places in the book were places i already know about. there was no actual "ghost hunting or ghost sightings". it just the historical details of the hotels and other haunted places. was hoping for more details of ghost sightings and new or little known places to go.
I loved this book! It was wonderful! Not only did I love the stories I loved the fact that the author also included history in his stories about the places he visited! I also liked the fact that it is obivious that he isn't trying to make you believe, he is just telling great stories and leaves the beliving up to his readers! I also appreciated the fact that he chose his stories withgreat care and that he enjoyed what he was doing! I HAVE to read more books from this writer! Buy his books you won't besorry!
