Normally, games based on movies tend to be a bit lacking, but Marvel does tend to do a decent job with their's (The first "Hulk" being the exception there). Ghost Rider falls into that niche of being decent, and maybe even a bit of a fun game.

Normally, games based on movies tend to be a bit lacking, but Marvel does tend to do a decent job with their's (The first "Hulk" being the exception there). Ghost Rider falls into that niche of being decent, and maybe even a bit of a fun game.

The game starts off after the movie, with Johnny using his powers for good, and refusing to be Mephistopheles' little errand boy. But the Rider is dragged into Hell, and is told that he's the only one that could prevent Armageddon and send an army of rogue demons back to Hell. Once his girlfriend, Roxanne, is threatened, Ghost Rider reluctantly hunts down the demons and prevent the end of everything.

The game borrows a lot of elements from games like God of War and Devil May Cry. Tends to remind me of Evil Dead: Regeneration, also. Once you get all the moves unlocked, the fighting becomes the highlight of the game. The combos can be easily triggered, and it's fun to see Ghost Rider use the variety of finishing moves for the elemental demons, and using his signature weapons and abilities (His chains, the Hellfire Shotgun, and the Penance Stare). And the Boss battles, I thought, were very challenging (for some reason, I really enjoyed fighting against Scarecrow). Plus, one of the unlockables has you playing the entire game as Blade. That's so damn cool!

The game does fall short in a few areas, too. The motorcycle stages can be a lot of fun, but at times hard to control. And another thing. The game... can be finished in 3 and half hours. I bought the game last night and started playing it this afternoon and I finished a half hour ago. Sure, there are additional characters (Blade, Vengeance, Ghost Rider 2099), but I don't know if that would make the game have that much higher a replay value. And the game's cinematics were basically comic frames, no CGI movies.

One thing annoyed me little, one of the unlockables had pics from the movie, but one guy was absent. No pics of Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, and none of Ghost Rider. Why? I mean, he is the star of the movie, right?

Overall, I'd say the game makes a terrific rental, but only hard core fans of the comic, movie, and maybe just Marvel alltogether should buy it. The game is fun, even if it felt a bit rushed.
