3.0 out of 5 stars Great Art, Same Old Story
This is the second season of the Ghost In The Shell series and like the first one, 2nd Gig is very pretty and the voices are perfect for the characters. The problem I have with it is the fact that the story makes no sense and it has a very anti-American twist. Most of the major plot points are left out and that leaves you barely enough information to understand what the...

Expect the price on this set to rise. Order two now! Well Done GITS Group and thanks for thinking of your fans.

Well if you have got to Vol.7 you probably know about the story anyway. The music CD that comes with the deluxe version is quite good, the storage box is good for the whole series and fits the standard version dvd cases just fine. The toy model that comes with the deluxe version is a little cheesy, like something that comes free with a box of breakfast cereal.

So they actually ship you two metal boxes: 1) just like the other six parts, a thin case with a round cutout to show the disk graphics. 2) A large case with seven slots and a ribbon to lift boxes out with. There is a cut on the end of the large box to show the disk graphics as well. The lid on the large box has slices of the disk graphics and numbers to key the disks. The toy is Motoko with what looks like a gate/portal. Two DVDs (dts and dolby) as normal.

I followed this on laughing man fansubs and was not able to follow of the subtleties of the second season very well. Watching the second season over as it is released, I'm catching much more of the details and seeing more of the affinity between Motoko and Kuze.

Word is a third feature film is on the way too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic ending..., January 5, 2007

If you've made it here, to volume 7, I imagine that you're already a fan of the series, or at least want to know if it's going to end in some weird way that will leave everyone confused. You shouldn't worry...the last episodes are rich in intensity and philosophy, and won't leave you disappointed. As a big GitS fan, I listen to the soundtrack a lot, and to hear the song in the last episode...gave me chills. I had to watch it twice, it was so great.

Now, on to the rest of the stuff to convince you why you should or shouldn't spring for the collector's edition, my personal opinion is a wholehearted yes. I own both series of Stand Alone Complex, and always make it a point to buy the last one in the collector's edition, because of the fantastic case. This one is as impressive as the first, if not moreso. I heard that there were issues with the first season that if you bought the collectors editions all the way through, that they wouldn't fit in the metal case. That isn't an issue with this case, as it is plenty big to store all of them. The included soundtrack, while not as strong as the SAC soundtrack itself, is another winner from Yoko Kanno. That selling point actually makes the sale worthwhile in and of itself. Lastly there's a little figurine of the Major, which is decent quality. It's not something to buy the set for, but not bad either.

Buy this set! You won't regret it!

This 2 disc set is packaged in a very nicely made large metal box with room for the other volumes in the series if you feel the need to remove them from the original cardboard packaging (you'll lose your Otaku status if you do). The box is well adorned with imagery from the series and is a very good idea and generous from Bandai considering that we'd have bought a normal cardboard box with joy. Thanks Bandai - appreciated!

5.0 out of 5 stars And again nukes over Nagasaki..., January 4, 2007
This review is from: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (DVD)
A very well constructed story.

The end is a bit open, ok, but I think there is no following series planned.

Compared with sac its perhaps a little more action, but its ok for me :)

This is the second season of the Ghost In The Shell series and like the first one, 2nd Gig is very pretty and the voices are perfect for the characters. The problem I have with it is the fact that the story makes no sense and it has a very anti-American twist. Most of the major plot points are left out and that leaves you barely enough information to understand what the story is all about. I won't give too much away in case you haven't seen it yet but in this version of the future all Goverments are evil and corrupt (with America being some sort of shadow empire), there was a war some where but they never say where and the people who left that country are now flooding Japan (as if they have enough room for that) and this causes huge problems which leads to other problems. See what I mean, it makes no sense because too much is left out. Watch the first season, it's so much better.
