Book Description

Two ghostly tales by J.R. a bonus novel:

Two years ago, a man broke into James Blakely's apartment and shot him in his sleep. Twelve times, killing him instantly. Dead and confused, James discovers he has a choice: he can move on into the afterlife, or he can stay behind. Unfortunately, since James has done some very bad things, moving on into the afterlife can only mean one thing: the fires of Hell. Or so he thinks. Forgoing eternal damnation, James instead chooses to haunt his old apartment building.

Now James's days are mostly spent visiting his daughter and ex-wife, welcoming new neighbors, and talking to those who can see the dead. It's a simple, peaceful life, but with each passing day, James discovers something more and more alarming: memories of his former life—and even his own identity—begin slipping away. Faced with the prospect that he is rapidly deteriorating into a state of nothingness, James sets out to save his eternal soul. With the help of his daughter and a world-class medium, his journey to peace and forgiveness will not be an easy one, especially for a ghost who still wishes to be a father—and who fears he is destined for a fiery Hell as punishment for sins he cannot remember. Now, as James begins to uncover the devastating secret that connects his soul to earth, he will discover that even in death life has a few surprises.

First in a new series featuring paranormal investigators Ellen and Monty Drew. Ellen claims to possess a sixth sense but Monty, a former P.I., only believes what he can see. She views their work as a sacred mission while Monty just wants a happy wife and a paycheck.

Then the Drews are summoned to a Southern California bible college after workers report hearing mysterious voices at night. When they encounter the unhappy ghost of a young girl, Monty's skepticism is shaken, but he resolves to help his wife free the trapped spirit. Their search uncovers the Latin phrase "Non omnis moriar"-not all of me shall die-and they learn more about the site's history as a Catholic school destroyed by an earthquake. But a mysterious presence has plans of its own for the young ghost, and Monty and Ellen must go head to head with a Dark Master that's had more than a century of practice in demonic deeds.

Now Monty must leave his body to do battle with the Dark Master, and he's not sure Ellen will be able to bring him back in one piece. He's not even sure what's happening is real. All he knows is that all hell is breaking loose and he's taking a crash course where an "F" means eternal damnation.

(Includes an introduction, a special holiday ghost story, and a clickable table of contents.)

These stories were each different, well written and enthrancing. The kind of stories you hate to see end. What happened to them 'after'? Will be searching out other stories by these authors. Perfect Kindle Reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, enjoyable March 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed these stories. They weren't the scariest I've ever read but I wasn't in the mood for the scariest. These were just right. A little scary, a lot entertaining and very enjoyable.

Once I began reading this book, I did not want to put it down. J.R. Rain's work is witty and richly descriptive, downright scary where it needs to be, and just plain entertaining. I would recommend it highly to any reader who appreciates good ghost stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Ghost Stories January 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am always looking for good ghost stories - and rarely finding them. But, these were pretty good. I got great visualization while reading this - even with short stories. The characters were well developed and empathetic.

Really well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghost Stories January 25, 2012

I'm now reading this and I think it takes a great deal of question out of what happens to us after we Die and explains how & why we have the capability to see/inderstand things which can't be understood by many.

5.0 out of 5 stars First three were really great! June 24, 2014
By Cecilie
Format:Kindle Edition
I chose a 5 star, though the collection was certainly hurt by the last story. It did not seem to be of the same caliber of all the others. I don't know why it was included.
I was thoroughly entertained by the first three stories. I was even brought to tears, which is rare for me.
I have this in my 'read again' section on my Kindle - I just won't waste my time on the last one again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Two hits, two misses March 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed 'The Body Departed' by JR Rain. The story got a little ridiculous as layers were added, but it somehow worked.

I also liked 'Haunted' by Gemma Haliday. I could empathize with the main character and admired her guts.

'Drummer Boy' by Scott Nicholson didn't hold my interest. There was too much going on and not enough focus.

I'm a fast reader, often finishing a full novel in 1-2 days. 'Cades Cove' by Aiden James is the reason it took 10 days to slog though this book. It had a solid idea for a ghost story and could have been really spooky, if not for the endless insipid dialogue. It got to the point where I was hoping everyone would die just so they would shut up already. Editing this story and reducing the content by 50% would be a vast improvement and let the creepy shine though.
