4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, July 14, 2008

I have to say this is one of the funnier series I have watched recently. All five volumes include the original Japanese language track with English subtitles and is dubbed in English as well the only thing about it I don't like is in the English language track it has more potty mouth language and the original language track has a more serious view of the issues going on which makes more sence when it is watched than the English version.NO matter what though both language versions are funny to watch.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ghost Stories, Vol. 5: Graduation Ghoulies (DVD)
It all ends here, Ghost Stories has finally come to an end. It's been a long, hilarious and not to mention R-rated journey and not only is it by far one of the most entertaining releases of the year, it is also, I believe, to be the funniest anime ever made.

Heres a review of each individual episode:

Episode 17: Episode 17 begins with Satsuki, and friends heading up to a ski lodge for their winter break. However, once at the lodge the gang runs into a girl named Yuki, who we learn had lost a sister years ago in a terrible drowning accident involving the beautiful and yet mysterious lake outside the lodge. A new conflict then arises as the dead girl makes an appearence to Satsuki and others. Now it's up to them to put this lost soul back to spiritural sleep.

This was a fatastic episode, very funny. It also had a great "Scooby Doo" line, I won't give it away but it was very funny. The characters here were all distributed pretty much evenly, aside from the absence of Amanojaku. Also the new character, Yuki, was very funny. Another great episode.

Grade: A+

Episode 18: Episode 18 basically starts out with two girls giving the school news report in the broadcasting room, and everything is seemingly going fine until a mysterious voice starts speaking from the intercom. The two girls are perplexed by this and not soon after, actually pretty much at that instant, the one girl falls very ill. What is this mysterious voice (it belongs to a ghost obviously)? And what action will it take when Satsuki is chosen to be the new school news reporter? This and more questions answered in this hilarious new Ghostly adventure.

This is a mark of change for Ghost Stories. Yes, while it may be true that the more recent, previous episodes of G.S. were inapropriate, this is really, really, really inapropriate. Not to say that this is bad, in fact this may actually be one of the best episodes on the entire series. What can I say, it was absolutely hilarious, very depraved, but also extremely funny. Seriously, this even made parts of South park look kind of mild, this is definitely a 16+ episode, although if it had to be rated by the NCAA(I might have that wrong) it would get a definite R. Like I said, watch with caution, but then again if your a fan of the series up until this point then I doubt there will be any problems.

Grade: A+

Episode 19: Episdoe 19 is very simple. If you recall, in episode 1 actually, we see a headless biker riding through the old school house. Yeah, well he comes back here in Episode 19 and basically he's chopping off the head of everything he sees. Meanwhile however the gang is split up; Satsuki and Momoko are heading to town to go to a solon run by Momoko's cousin, while Hajime, Keicheirro( sorry; I'm just too lazy to look it up) and Leo get stuck doing work for Mr. Sakata. New conflicts rise then as the headless Biker targets Satsuki and her friends.

This was another extremely funny episode, and while it may not have been quite as inapropiate as the previous episode it was still very shocking. Also the bit we get with Momoko's cousin is hysterical, I won't say, but there is a little change here concerning that particular character from the original version. All in all, very good.

Grade: A+

Episode 20: Well it's the final episode, and basically it starts out with Satsuki and her little brother preparing for their mother's funeral anniversary. However conflicts form as basically every other ghost in the series makes a camio as well as the new ghoost called Ouma. Ouma, like all the other ghosts holds a grudge against Satsuki and her family, and now it's up to Satsuki and her friends to put it back into spiritual sleep. But what of Amanojaku, will he stay, stuck in the body of a cat, or will he leave the gang? The answer is here, in the final exciting chapter of Ghost Stories.

I am glad to say that the final episode does not dissapoint, it is hilarious just like all the others. Once again it is very shocking and inapropriate, but it's all fun. It was a very satisfying ending with great jokes, it was a blast.

Grade: A+

Ghost Stories for me has been an absolute treat. It was truly a hilarious comedy series. I have to say though, the voice actors are what really shine here. As they say 'it's not what you say it's how you say it,' and the voice actors here really do an excellent job, coming through with great line delivery as well as comic timing. It's what makes a comedy work and the voice actors, as well as the whole creative team clearly made sure it did just that. To be perfectly honest I think Ghost Stories is way funnier than most comedy on T.V., and it's a shame that it will probabaly never make it to Adult Swim, or Comedy Central. But still nonetheless, it was excellent and I implore you all if you have not seen this, it should not be missed, check it out, you wont be sorry, and if your already a fan, pick up this volume, the same goes for you.

Also I would like to comment that if you have bought the previous volumes you would have noticed that there was some censoring. For volume five however all this censoring is gone. And not only is it gone the F-bomb is seriously dropped like 15 times, which proves to be quite different from previous volumes. So I guess I might as well let you know.
