Book Description

March 16, 2000 Ghost Stories (Lone Pine)
Enjoy this spooky romp through a world of restless spirits, from the ghost who warns hikers in the Cascades about a dangerous path, to the phantoms that roam the Seattle Underground. You'll read a fascinating account about a man wrongly lynched near Rockford. He swears revenge on the drunken vigilantes who strung him up--and they each die screaming. Another story tells of the spirits that ring the bells in the tower of Tacoma's Old City Hall--even after the bells have been made unusable.

More About the Author

Barbara Smith is a photographer, author, and self-admitted Photoshop junkie. Having designed stationery items for Rachel Ashwell (Shabby Chic Design), the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, and the Hotel Del Coronado, she is also the author of 'The Art & Craft of Keepsake Photography' (2007 - Watson-Guptill/Amphoto). Her second book, 'Baby Face: Celebrating Your Pregnancy and Baby with Beautiful Photo Crafts,' will be published in the spring of 2008.

Barbara teaches workshops in her West Hollywood studio, offering detailed instruction on combining photographs, graphic design, and book and paper arts to create unique social stationery, small books, albums, and distinctive promotional material. Photographers are thrilled and often surprised to discover that, using Photoshop (the full version or Elements), they're able to design simple yet dynamic layouts.

Here's what others have said about her books and workshops:

'This class offered something I haven't seen anywhere else. I don't know anyone else who is teaching this ' I didn't even know it was possible. '

'I have searched the Internet extensively to gather information and how-to in this specialized area of photography, and I haven't had much luck. I was overjoyed to discover Barbara's books and workshops!'

'In three hours Barbara totally changed the way I'll be doing business cards, note cards, books, photo albums, etc. This is a big part of the answer to my perennial question ' what do I do with my favorite photos? Barbara combines easy, elegant design with quality materials and techniques to bring your presentation to a whole new level.'

'It is astounding to me how many referrals you get by incorporating this type of product into your photographic business. I was contacted by several different people who, after seeing the holiday cards, decided to have their own custom stationery made using personal images.'

Please visit Barbara's website (www.bsmithphotography.com). Be sure to sign up for her newsletter, and be on the lookout for a new line of Photoshop template-based kits she'll be offering in 2008.

1.0 out of 5 stars Better Stories heard around a campfire, July 21, 2006
By
Patranella (Vancouver, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghost Stories of Washington (Ghost Stories (Lone Pine)) (Paperback)
I thought this would be quirky and interesting book to read. Unfortunately, there's virtually no research to validate any story. There's the story of the family who "try as I might, I could not learn the true identity" that got a great deal on a house (because it was haunted of course). Then there are the stories where a couple of months later a neighbor filled them in on the old lady who used to live there, etc. etc.

I've heard scarier (and better documented) stories around the campfire as a girlscout. If these stories were circulating around the web site, I'm sure they would be revealed as 'urban legends'.

There are much more interesting and better researched paranormal and ghost stories out there than this book represents.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ghost Summaries, July 16, 2010
This review is from: Ghost Stories of Washington (Ghost Stories (Lone Pine)) (Paperback)
A great number of interesting historical sites are named in the book including the ghost tales that accompany them. As a tourist interested in the paranormal, this is a comprehensive guide to some of the most worthwhile places and areas to visit in the state. Also, many of the excerpts may spark further interest in certain lore and would work well to jump start or inspire several novel-type tales.

If you enjoy reading 230 pages of summary, this is the book for you. Although packed with a number of featured places, the details are short and read like a briefing or `account' rather than actually providing chilling or original insight. Each section contains fairly common information that can be obtained through minimal research. I was hoping for more compelling and possibly goose bump raising stories that give some facts or debunking of the paranormal. Instead, it reads more like a quick campfire story. Spook factor is minimal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple yet enjoyable local tales, March 23, 2008
By
Marietta (Sammamish, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghost Stories of Washington (Ghost Stories (Lone Pine)) (Paperback)
My 10 yr old son and I were able to enjoy this book together...it's not too scary, yet it's still interesting to read. We are not native to the Seattle area, so it was fun to read about ghosts in towns and places we have visited or passed through on trips. This is NOT a hardcore scary ghost story book, but it is still interesting in its own way.
