Outstanding! Lush, romantic, passion to the nines!, June 23, 1999

I have been an avid fan of Phillipe Sarde since first listening to the score of Tess of the D'Urbevilles. This I highly recommend. From this I found the soundtrack to Ghost Story. It is chilliing, haunting, a style that harkens back to the great composers. Would love to know of other albums=soundtracks released by this artist.

Quite handily one of the best of all time, July 29, 2007
This review is from: Ghost Story (Audio CD)
A lifetime of great film music only seems like prep work when Philippe sits down to this one. Every track is crammed with brilliant ideas, and there is an overall ebb and flow that would be the envy of Williams or Goldsmith. By all means, add this to your collection and then embark on the journey of M Sarde's sensational art.

Out-performs The Film..., April 29, 2006
This review is from: Ghost Story (Audio CD)
Though being far from an abject failure, the filmed version of Peter Straub's GHOST STORY was sorely lacking in the kind of 'turn-all-the-lights-in-the-house-on' chills that the book contained. But the moments that it did succeed are owed to three components: some of the most striking visuals of any movie in this genre, a compelling and memorable performance in the lead by woefully underappreciated actor Alice Krige, and this magnificent score by French composer Philippe Sarde.
Combining the lush romanticism of classic Hollywood movie scores, while balancing it with the kind of nerve-jangling flourishes and motifs of the best horror B-movie scores, Sarde created mood, atmosphere and an all-around sense of dread that was so effective, you could almost swear that the producers swiped this music from a better, much scarier movie. However they came to select him as their composer, it's a damn good thing they did...
An absolute must-have, for collectors of film music scores or just remarkable music in general.
