Iceland...home to a little over 300,000 people. Home to the popular children's program LazyTown and the magnificent waterfall Dettifoss. Home to the modern progenitors of heartachingly gorgeous melodies. Luminaries such as Bjork, Sigur Ros, and now. . .Seabear.I could spin a yarn about the subtle complexity of the record, add a couple paragraphs about the existential beauty of the songs, perhaps even the ubiquitous Amazon reviewer's track-by-track analysis. I could tell you the single "I Sing, I Swim" alone would be worth the purchase price of the LP. But all of that would only keep you from finding out for yourself one of the brightest new stars on the indie scene today, and you'll want all the time in the world to enjoy this record. For fans of artists such as: Jens Lekman Night Falls Over Kortedala, Kings of Convenience Riot on an Empty Street, and Ferraby Lionheart Catch the Brass Ring.

Brilliant song writing coupled with beautiful music makes this my favorite cd in a long, long time. It's not just one or two songs that stick out, the entire album is fantastic. Highly recommended to anyone who likes good music. :)

Beautiful, beautiful folksy-indie songs that honestly just make me smile to listen to them. There's a violin among the instruments, which is what really got me, I think. One of the best albums of 2007, and definitely the most underrated and unheard of! I love the entire album (which is so rare these days), but especially love "Arms" and "I Sing, I Swim." As soon as I heard some of the songs, I had to rush out and buy the whole thing!Recommended for fans of Sufjan Stevens, Great Lake Swimmers, and maybe also The Shins.

Iceland is creating such amazing musicians and none stand out more right now then Sindri Már Sigfússon. He is the lead singer here with Seabear and has a solo project titled Sin Fang (formerly Sin Fang Bous). Sin Fang has a more of a pop-influenced sound but is just as great. Seabear has many layers of sound, all hushed and distant but detailed. It is beautiful and fragile and poetic - like the large expanses of Iceland. Great album for anybody who likes Iron and Wine's earlier albums, Bon Iver, Sigur Ros, Ray LaMontagne, Damien Rice - even early Bob Dylan and Van Morrison if they have an open mind! Perfect sitting by the fire in the winter album!

It's pleasant music but...,

Seabear will put you to sleep! If your heart is racing or you are stressed, put Seabear on. Guaranteed to lower your blood pressure. If the tunes were any bit ploddingly slower, I'm sure they could put you in reverse and make you throw things in anger.
