5.0 out of 5 stars This gal is nuts (in a good way)
Jill is an incredible writer, who is destined for greater things in the journalism world. Her style is such, you pick up the book (or view her blog) and realize hours and hours have passed. I'm sure this will be the first of many books. She works for the paper in Juneau, and was followed and picked up last year by NPR. Read the book, view her blog, and follow her...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great story! But....
This is a great story of human perserverance. But, I had read the author's blog, and had hoped that the color pictures would be in the book. Black and white pics don't do it justice, and for the price, I had thought I was getting a good read, as well as a great set of pics of the north.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!, February 20, 2009

This is a great read for anyone and highly recommended. I am not a cyclist, nor ultra sport athlete or anything remotely close to what Jill is... that being said, her writing style and ability to grab the reader and bring them into her story is amazing.

Sometimes reading this book you may start to drift into the realm of thinking this is fiction and have to pinch yourself back into reality and realize that all of this is based on her life and experiences.

buy the book now... you won't regret it!

and with a quick google search I found Jill's blog http://arcticglass.blogspot.com/ and mention of the upcoming iditarod trail race http://www.alaskaultrasport.com/alaska_ultra_home_page.html

GO JILL!

I devoured this book in two nights, and could easily ahve read it in one, but wanted to give myself some time to absorb it. Easily one of the best books I've read in years and would highly recommend it.

The author writes with a realness and freshness that got me hooked, and it just makes you realise what anyone can achieve.

Amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars More please!, January 8, 2012
This review is from: Ghost Trails (Paperback)
This book is about the author's experience riding a snow-bike on the Iditarod Trail. She explores her personal history hiking and biking and how she came to be riding a snow bike in Alaska. It is really interesting to see her journey. Definitely a nail-biter at times too. I couldn't put it down!

I loved this book and I love Jill's blog: arcticglass.blogspot.com. I recommend this book, her other book and the blog. She is an excellent writer having amazing adventures with a perfect mix of introspection and motion. I started reading her blog a couple years ago, picked up this book and then her other book when it came out and I think it has actually changed my life in that I am getting out there and doing more following her example.

If anyone can recommend more books like this to me I would be very grateful!

4.0 out of 5 stars For anyone suffering from wanderlust ..., November 15, 2011
This review is from: Ghost Trails (Paperback)
The first few chapters I thought, "why is this girl letting the men in her life push her to do things she obviously doesn't want to do" but as the book went on I began to think that maybe Ms. Homer really did (does) want to do all these wilderness things - she just doesn't think she does. I liked the interspersing of earlier adventures with the main Iditarod race. I think Ms. Homer did a great job of capturing the mental ups and downs that many endurance athletes face. Overall I quite enjoyed the book, though my electronic copy could have used a better copy editor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Homer's Ghost Trails is a worthy read for all endurance athletes., September 10, 2011

Jill Homer's descriptive style lends itself to the time shifting way of writing. What a life! Adventure after adventure with never a dull moment. Jill has encouraged me through her writing to test my limits but to also realize that we all must live in the present and not keep wondering about the future.

Jill uses her own experiences and sardonic wit to explore the pathology and rewards of painful, challenging, and yet somehow worthwhile adventures that push you to your limit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, if you liked Into Thin Air you will love this., May 13, 2010
This review is from: Ghost Trails (Paperback)
Excellent book about finding oneself through the trial of a lifetime. I love survival stories and this is up there with Into Thin Air ( Jon Krakauer ) and Between a Rock and A Hard Place ( Aron Ralston) . This is a very motivational read.
