This review is from: Ghost Watcher's Guide to Ireland, A (Hardcover)
When I first contemplated purchasing this book I immediately noticed one of Simon Marsden's photographs (Seefeld House, to be exact) on the front cover. I hoped that this would bode well for the content, both photographs and text, so therefore I purchased the book.I was rather disappointed because none of the Marsden photographs had any relation to the ghost stories. The photographs just seem to be interspersed throughout the book and as a matter of fact I do not remember any of the stories actually being about any of the photos, whether or not they were on adjoining pages. Also, a few of the photos were actually repeated later in the book and were close-ups of the same photo shown earlier. At first thought, it seemed tacky. Being an aficianado of Mr. Marsden's work, I expected the photos to complement the text of the ghost story. Mr. Marsden accomplishes this extremely well for I enjoy his text as well as his unique photos. I was hoping that this book would tell slightly different versions of the ghost stories associated with the buildings/sites in the Marsden photos; those who read ghost stories relish an occasional new twist on an old story. ... I am afraid that I could not recommend it. |
