ghost hunting rules and recommendations,
By
This review is from: Ghost Worlds: A Guide to Poltergeists, Portals, Ecto-Mist, & Spirit Behavior (Paperback)
when i read the book i was impressed with the basics of ghost hunting- its termilogy - accurate descriptions of places and points that often need direction for the novice ghost hunter- its direct- to the point and can assist anyone seeking sound knowledge- as the quotes from other notable authors at the beginning of each chapter proves that other dimensions are felt- seen- touched- heard---- and have for all of time- ghost hunting is not a new phase of popularity but ancient and accepted thru out time- i do recommend this book- i believe it to be sound sage practical information--ghost hunting is a serious delving into other realms - with that in mind serious seekers have a workbook that guides- the paranormal is a vast subject and far reaching- not for the timid or the foolish- so enjoy and learn !! sramsey359@windstream.net

Awesome New Information about Ghosts & Portals,
By
This review is from: Ghost Worlds: A Guide to Poltergeists, Portals, Ecto-Mist, & Spirit Behavior (Paperback)
This book provides a wonderful opportunity for readers to visit the life of a psychic and learn what it is really like. I can tell you that Melba is the real deal. She is so insightful about her subject matter and does such a good job of explaining everything in down to earth terms, that it is a joy to read her work. I am also happy to say that she is a very close personal friend and a truly genuine person. She has for many years helped hundreds of people through her readings and sound advice. She owns her beliefs and is not shy about claiming what she believes to be true. She walks the walk and talks the talk. She never glosses over the truth even if it may not show her in her best light. You have to admire a person who does that. And you will admire her and her work when you read Ghost Worlds. Her personal experiences will astound you. And believe me, they are true. I was there with her on some of them!

Beware, waste of time,

This review is from: Ghost Worlds: A Guide to Poltergeists, Portals, Ecto-Mist, & Spirit Behavior (Paperback)
i bought this book with high expectations on learning more about paranormal investigations, unfortunately i trusted in the high ratings for this book. This book to me was a waste of time. i continued to read it with high hopes of learning techniques or new information. what i came across was an author that was more focused on talking about her gifts and experiences than actually teaching like the descriptions talk about. i was very very disappointed that this book didn't live up to it's expectations.

Lacks substance,

This review is from: Ghost Worlds: A Guide to Poltergeists, Portals, Ecto-Mist, & Spirit Behavior (Paperback)
Ghost Worlds by Melba Goodwyn is proof of something I've long suspected--that so long as you know the right people, pretty much anyone can write a book these days--and get it published. If the author hadn't indicated so often that she was a grandmother, I would have suspected that the book had been written by a pre-teen. I found it not only simplistic, but it also contains various errors in grammar and syntax, which leads me to wonder whether the editor even read the manuscript. For example: the author writes that 'Ghosts are as curious as you and Ime...' Apparently she wasn't sure whether the correct choice was 'I' or 'me' and so she invented a new word 'Ime.' (The correct choice is 'I' by the way.) On another page whenever questioning a ghost she wrote, 'Remember to ask direct yes and no questions such as "Are you male or female?" Sure, the answer would undoubtedly be 'yes,' but that hardly narrows it down. Being a writer of metaphysical humor, I usually make such statements in my writing intentionally in order to be funny. In this particular context, however, the author was supposedly being serious.
There are so many books on the subject of ghost hunting these days that it's hard to justify forking over good money on this one. I think that Ghost Worlds needs to fade into the ethers from whence it came.

Well-written, would have preferred more "I was there" details,
By UrbanRube (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghost Worlds: A Guide to Poltergeists, Portals, Ecto-Mist, & Spirit Behavior (Paperback)
There's no question that the author has a great deal of experience and is genuinely intuitive, and the book is very well written, organized, and edited. However, from my perspective, the book would have benefited from a lot more first-person stories with a lot more details. In one case especially, she backs off any details at all about what happened in a very unusual case, citing privacy. I appreciate her ethics, but it's possible to tell a story and change a few details in order to support the context of what you're describing and make it more interesting for the reader. The bulk of the book is devoted to explanations of various types of paranormal phenomena. However, Ms. Goodwyn writes off theories with which she doesn't agree without presenting any supporting evidence for her statement that her own favorite theories are more correct. In her view, poltergeists can't possibly have a demonic aspect. It's just the energy of the emotionally stressed or disturbed at work; case closed. This is a subject of a great deal of study and debate among people who specialize in this type of case, and to state that her own theory is correct categorically--even if she does so based on years of experience--strikes me as incautious, and the book suffers for it.

Passing the information along the East Coast,
By
This review is from: Ghost Worlds: A Guide to Poltergeists, Portals, Ecto-Mist, & Spirit Behavior (Paperback)
"As the mist became focused and more defined, it was obvious to me as well as everyone who was present that it was taking on the shape of a huge circular portal. Then it happened! Orbs began flying out of the center at rapid speeds. Before long the area was flooded with orbs of every conceivable color."
- Ghost Worlds, by Melba Goodwyn Experienced parapsychologist, and member of the Texarkana Paranormal Investigators, Melba Goodwynn, has blended clairvoyant wisdom with traditional psychology in providing spiritual counseling for over twenty-five years. Goodwynn theorizes that ghosts are energy beings who vibrate at different frequencies. This results in ghosts appearing not only in different forms, but also in different colors with tendencies toward darker shades, hence the shadow people. In this fascinating examination of paranormal phenomena, she gives insight on the behaviors & types of ghosts, children & imaginary playmates, practical ghost hunting & communicating tips, energy anomalies, and vortexes. She states that she believes that a vortex represents a conduit that supplies the energy necessary for ghosts to retain their spherical shape until they choose to manifest in a more distinct form. Vortexes that appear to spin clockwise will appear vertical as if rising, while those appearing to spin counterclockwise is often photographed as descending from the upper part of a photo. These descending vortexes are usually photographed as long swaying horizontal shapes, bending and curving with odd contrails behind them. Informative, but no visuals,
This review is from: Ghost Worlds: A Guide to Poltergeists, Portals, Ecto-Mist, & Spirit Behavior (Paperback)
I found this book fascinating and informative, and it answered a lot of questions for me. However, its crediblity would have been greatly enhanced had the author included some of the many photos she says she has taken of orbs, apparitions, etc. A book that talks so much about "fantastic" "amazing" photos should have included some of those photos for readers to look at. Are any of the author's photos available for general viewing anywhere? I'd love to see some of these orbs, portals, eco-mists, etc., that she says she has taken pictures of.
