1.0 out of 5 stars Too buggy to play
The game locks up constantly. I'm about 50% done with the game and have given up on it. It has already locked up at least 15 times, at which point I have to reset the system and start the level over. This is unacceptable. Apparently they didn't do any QA on this game, because a lot of people are complaining about the same problems. I can't even sell the game to recoup...

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good on the PS2, June 19, 2009

This review is from: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Video Game)
The Ghostbusters video game has been eagerly anticipated to say the least, with early glimpses of promising action gameplay and the announcement that the original cast would be lending their voices to the game as well. Though the higher powered console versions of Ghostbusters are indeed great in their own right, I had feared that my beloved PS2 would wind up with a watered down port. Ever so thankfully though, Ghostbusters on the PS2, while looking quite different graphically in a cartoony-ish style (as does the Wii version) from its higher powered brethren, benefits from addictive and entertaining gameplay, as well as a wonderful re-creation of the Ghostbusters world. You play as a new recruit under the tutilege of Peter, Ray, Egon, and Winston; as you chase down some familiar looking ghosts (what would a Ghostbusters game be without Slimer and Stay Puft after all?) in a story that takes place after the events of the films. If there's any drawbacks to Ghostbusters, it's the control scheme in terms of wrangling and trapping ghosts, which is cumbersome and definitely takes some getting used to. Along with some graphical glitches, frame-rate drops, and slowdown; Ghostbusters isn't without its flaws, but the game remains a fun blast regardless. Once you get used to the controls, taking on ghosts is fun and rewarding, and scanning with the PKE Meter to unlock some bonuses and easter eggs will keep you occupied. The game's script is dynamite, and with a voice cast that includes the returning Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton (along with new addition Alyssa Milano) help making even listening to the game a joy. All in all, if all you own is a PS2 and you're a Ghostbusters fan in the least, you should definitely pick up this game, and with the budget price tag it carries, there really isn't a reason not to.

I got the PS2 version at midnight last night, the game play is very characteristic of classic Playstation 2 and it has a very nostalgic feel for those of us who are old enough to have seen the movie at the theaters. It is great that the original actors/actresses have done all the voices.

I look forward to playing the PS3 version after I finish the PS2 version.

This is unacceptable. Apparently they didn't do any QA on this game, because a lot of people are complaining about the same problems. I can't even sell the game to recoup some of my money, because I wouldn't feel right about selling someone a game that doesn't work. Unfortunately, the people who make the game don't feel the same way.

2.0 out of 5 stars Freezes more then I can play it......, July 1, 2009

This review is from: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Video Game)
The overall game play is fun BUT, when you get stuck in the wall and can't move repeatedly (so far I have been stuck in the same spot for 4 DAYS and can't continue the game) It's not worth it! Don't waste your money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Game, but freezes at times, June 30, 2009

I haven't played a game this good in a long time, however it freezes and when that happens you gotta reset and do again all that stuff you just did, atleast up until the last save point. Thats the only bad thing I can think of. Another thing I realized is that the PS2 version was made by a completely different studio, yes it distributed by Atari , but the ps3 version and the ps2 version use different studios and that game is somewhat different in gameplay. Except for the freezes, its a good game and a good script, a little weird at times (the vocals by the cast), but who you gonna call? I played as the girl btw and I'm a guy.

3.0 out of 5 stars PS2 version has GLITCHES!, June 16, 2009
By
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Video Game)
PS2 version I do not know about the others but the game is FUN but its full of GLITCHES! I bought it this morning and it glitched a bunch of times where audio would just DROP all together and there would be no sound, then sometimes someone would be talking in like a cut scene and their mouth wouldn't move, and worst of all it FREEZES! It froze on me 2 or 3 times and I got so frustrated I took it back to the store and exchanged it for a new disc, went home with the new disc, played it on a different PS2 (first was my brothers Fat but then I went to my Slim) to make sure it wasn't the PS2 and within 10 minutes of playing it froze in the same place as the first disc, audio dropped out again I believe in a spot I am not so sure with that one, and I got to a boss battle and it froze again, I had to stop playing because I got tired of the freezing.
If you can get past the glitches the game is really fun, the voice acting is great, so is the music and it is really good its just the glitches might drive you nuts. Again this is the PS2 version I do not know about the other platforms hopefully they perform better.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm very sad...It is too glitchy, October 29, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Video Game)
Like other people said...this game is plagued with glitches and bugs, it constantly freezes up. Ironically, is like the game is cursed or demonically possesed. I'm very desapointed, because, actually, it is fun (in some parts) the voice work and the story are really cool, and it has good atmosphere overall, but then: no shadows, poor AI for the support caracters, no multiplayer, low and ugly cuality of video resolution in cutscenes, etc, etc. I know is a PS2 game, but come on people, PS2 can do it a lot of better, for example: RESIDENT EVIL 4 is AMAZING!! And you must remember, that, like me, there is a lot of people in the WORLD who can not buy a PS3...not yet at least.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Entertaining, But Beware of the Freeze-Ups, September 21, 2009

Fans have been clamoring for more Ghostbusters since the second movie was released twenty years ago. Though no movie is yet in the works, when all of the original actors (minus Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver) signed on to do the video game, it was time for rejoicing. The overall plot of the game has the player playing as a new recruit to the Ghostbusters. The crew has all kinds of new and highly dangerous experimental equipment that's never been tested and as the new guy, that's what you get to do. Something's fishy in NYC and ghosts and monsters are running rampant. It's up to the Ghostbusters to figure out exactly what. The game incorporates key elements from both films into the game, but in such a way that they don't seem redundant. Along the way, you get to scan ghosts and find missing pages from Tobin's Spirit Guide.

The graphics are very cartoonish which I really enjoyed. The cut scenes and overall game play reminded me of the Ghostbusters cartoon series. Besides that, the overall style of animation is perfect for the semi-fictional world of the Ghostbusters.

The overall gameplay is fairly easy and a novice player can enjoy the game just as much as an expert gamer.

With that said, the game does have a few flaws. The movement of the character on screen is a bit annoying at times as he walks around a corner of a hallway or enters a room and you are unable to see what the character sees until several seconds later. The load times are also quite long, ranging on average around 35 seconds and sometimes almost up to a full 60 seconds. I could overlook those things, but the one problem of the game that I had real issues are the freeze-ups. I'm not sure why, but the PS2 version of this game is notorious for freezing up. That would just be irritating, but the freeze-ups often occur towards the end of a longer segment or just after a major battle. The game only saves after the end of each segment, so when the game freezes it requires you to go back and re-play the level you just beat. It's very frustrating. I thought it might have been my PS2, but I tried the game on my brothers system and it did the same thing. We also rented a copy of the game from a local video store and were playing it on his system and it had the same problem.

I really enjoyed GHOSTBUSTERS: THE VIDEO GAME. It's a game that fans of the movies will probably enjoy, but is entertaining enough that it has an appeal to casual gamers even if they are not familiar with the Ghostbusters. Just be aware that the game will freeze up.

1.0 out of 5 stars This game was never tested!!, July 30, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Video Game)
The PS2 version of this game is the buggiest PS2 game ever released!! It will freeze up everywhere, during cut scenes, save screens and during gameplay. Do not buy it!! You will be frustrated!! The voice acting is nice but the sound quality is horrible. The graphics have been completely dumbed down for the PS2 version to make the PS3 version look good. I have not played the other versions of this game but I definatly cannot reccomend the PS2 version which should never been released in it's buggy state.

This review is from: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Video Game)
I was really looking forward for this game to come out because i love the Ghostbusters. But when i got it the first few minutes were lame. You didn't get to play a Ghostbuster, you got to play a 'new guy'. I didn't get to play long because the game kept freezing up so I had to send it back for a refund from amazon. I was really disapointed in the quailty of the game. It took over 20 years for a Ghostbuster video game to come out and this was all they could come up with? I should have read the critics reviews before buying it but i thought it was going to be great, I was wrong.
