Biography

Dennis Coles got his big break as a producer and rapper with the Wu-Tang Clan, whose menacing, martial arts-influenced 1993 album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was one of the most acclaimed and influential hip-hop albums of the decade. On the back of that, all nine Wu-Tang members pursued solo careers, and Coles' - known as Ghostface Killah - was one of the most successful.

Editorial Reviews

The thing that sets Ghostface Killah apart from the rest of his Wu-Tang contemporaries is the amazing versatility he's shown over the years. He's not touting deodorant or making movies, and he most definitely isn't performing surrealist hijinks like Ol' Dirty. What Ghostface has quietly done over the past decade is establish himself as the most mature, suave member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Shaolin's Finest captures the finest moments from his MC solo releases, and the results are nothing short of impressive. Granted, he tackles all of the topics familiar to most rap connoisseurs, but the production of RZA and other Wu-Tang producers makes Ghostface still retain a distinctive quality that separates him from his group. The centerpiece of the album is easily the achingly beautiful yet horrifyingly real "All That I Got Is You." It's such a shocking portrait of inner-city poverty, written so amazingly clearly and vividly, that it could melt the hearts of the hardest people. An extremely thorough compilation and an impressive survey of the most underrated lyricist in the Wu-Tang roster. -All Music Guide

4.0 out of 5 stars Stark Enterprises, February 28, 2004
This review is from: Ghostface Killah: Shaolin's Finest (Audio CD)
Usually, I don't do reviews, but I've got to on this one. I rated it a 4 because Ghostface just always puts out the best of darts. If you're one of those people who only like artists based on their highest-charting singles or just like to get into artists via the Greatest Hits collection, then get this. But if you REALLY want to get the best of Ghostface, get ALL THREE of his CDs, because the best cuts can be found there. Yeah, this one has amazing joints like Apollo Kids, Poisonous Darts and Daytona 500, but it's missing Black Jesus, Mighty Healthy, Motherless Child, the Forest and others that'll blow your mind. If you really prefer the taste test first, then peep this. After that, you're gonna want all three albums. Trust me. Like another review suggested, Start with Iron Man first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghost is the new Older God, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Ghostface Killah: Shaolin's Finest (Audio CD)
I am an avid Ghostface fan, this album is on point, it has all the classic Ghost material. But, we all know that this compilation was made by his first record company after he defected to Def Jam, so you cannot always expect for them to give you the best product. but for what it is worth, as usual, Ghost's darts are as sharp as ever.

2.0 out of 5 stars .., May 4, 2003
This review is from: Ghostface Killah: Shaolin's Finest (Audio CD)
Mostly a compilation album. Most of the songs are off Iron Man and Supreme Caliente.. may be a few original songs. The copy that i have doesn't have Winter Warz on it.. i dunno maybe they're different copies running around someplace. You can definatly find better than this in the Wu camp.
36 Chambers
Wu Forever
Tical
Only built for cuban linx
Liquid Swords
Brooklyn Zoo
Iron Man

all wu classics (no specific order) look out for the new Meth album and Masta Killa.
