The Spy House—one of the most haunted sites on the Eastern Seaboard, which is home to several ghosts

The Proprietary House—haunted by the ghost of a little boy, a Revolutionary War soldier, and others who occupy the ladies’ room

Centenary College—where a ghost known as Tillie Smith has been seen on the campus grounds and in her old dormitory, as well as Union Cemetery in Hackettstown

More About the Author

L'Aura Hladik, author of "Ghosthunting: New Jersey" (published by Clerisy Press) and the upcoming "Ghosthunting: New York City", has been officially ghost hunting since 1993 and founded the NJ Ghost Hunters Society in 1998, which to date is the largest paranormal investigating organization in New Jersey.

As a paranormal investigator, L'Aura has stayed at the famously haunted Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, LA. Other ghost hunting explorations have taken her to Chicago, Savannah, and New Orleans. Internationally, she's investigated several Irish haunted castles, most notably Leap Castle (County Offaly, Ireland).

L'Aura has appeared on the nationally syndicated television show "Montel Williams" (UPN Network) for the Sylvia Browne Halloween special on October 31, 2006, and "The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet" (Fox Network) in September, 2008. In addition to local cable TV program appearances, L'Aura and the NJGHS were the focus of the Treasure HD Dish Network TV show, "Magnificent Obsessions" in March 2007.

She has been a guest on countless AM, FM and Internet radio shows, and local newspapers and E-Zines. L'Aura has worked with paranormal "heavy hitters" Jeff Belanger, John Zaffis, Rosemary Ellen Guiley, and Troy Taylor in the production of various ghost conferences both in New Jersey and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In fact, Belanger decided to do a series of articles for his monthly Ghost Village.com e-newsletter entitled "Women in the Paranormal." He included L'Aura along with Lorraine Warren, of the ghost hunting duo Ed & Lorraine Warren from Monroe, CT and Donna LaCroix, of the original cast of "Ghost Hunters" on SciFi (now SyFy).

When she's not out presenting paranormal findings to various libraries and colleges, L'Aura enjoys taking a ride on Shades of Death Road in her 1983 Cadillac Hearse named "Jezzabelle".

1.0 out of 5 stars If you believe in orbs....., January 20, 2009
By
Amy H (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ghosthunting New Jersey (America's Haunted Road Trip) (Paperback)
Ok, I feel I have to say something positive instead of just negatives, so here's the good news: the author is a decent writer. As someone who has read hundreds of books about ghosts and ghosthunting, that is not always a given. Now for the bad news.... it seems that despite a long history of being a ghosthunter all the author has to show for it are lots of orbs. Oh, and "creepy feelings." She doesn't seem to understand how common orbs are in digital photos and is among the small minority of investigators who still believes that they are spirits. If you take these away as paranormal experiences she really has next to nothing to share in these chapters. This is the first book on ghosts I have ever stopped reading (or at least skimming) before the end. Two thirds was all I could get through. I need to say here that I do not know the author, have no grudge or any agenda other than to share my honest opinion with others so they can make up their minds whether to spend money on this. Reading this book I felt like I had bitten into a delicious looking dessert to find it was merely air with no substance.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't like it, February 6, 2010

I really didn't like this book. Although L'aura is a good story teller, the book became quickly boring when she wasted page after page about pictures of orbs. Any reputable ghost hunter knows orbs are useless. Maybe an EVP or a full body app. would've been nice. Otherwise, she should've cut all that blubber out and kept to the interesting things - like the stories behind the purported hauntings. Not a bad read - IF you skip her "investigations" reviews at the end of each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a word... AWESOME!, September 27, 2008
This review is from: Ghosthunting New Jersey (America's Haunted Road Trip) (Paperback)
If you're looking for a guide to haunted locations in New Jersey, written in a 'down to earth' style, this is the book for you! L'aura covers locations throughout the entire state. She narrows down the 'how to' aspect that most ghosthunting books bombard you with and gets right to the 'nitty-gritty', which makes for a great read. As Ghosthunting has taken over the media in recent years 'T.V. shows, movies, etc...', it's refreshing to read a book about this subject that has a personal touch and lets you feel involved. L'aura keeps the reader interested through each chapter with her investigations and location histories. For seasoned Ghosthunters and the novice alike. If you have an interest in Ghosthunting and happen to live in New Jersey, she provides the 'spark' for you to go out and investigate!
