This book is a MUST-HAVE for anyone interested in ghosts and ghost hunting. While the focus is on North Carolina and sites located around the state, Kala also discusses the basics of ghosts and their various "issues" (why are they stuck here?), her own experiences with ghosts and apparitions, and what to expect when you encounter one. Being a North Carolinian myself, I found the book not only historically accurate but also interesting and engaging. If you've ever thought about ghost hunting in NC, this book is definitely the one to read before you start your adventure!!

I live in North Carolina, and pride myself as a historian and have been to most of the places listed in Ms. Ambrose's book, but grabbed a copy to read to see if I had missed anything. I MISSED A LOT. I was amazed at the NEW things a learned, about NC and about the tangible remnants not of only houses, but people! Kala's book gave me so much more depth to these places, and I am working my way back to each location (I have the book in my car as a guide!), and revisiting these places, knowing that there are spirits and tragedies one now knows from Kala's book makes the trip so much richer and touching. This is the only Haunted Travel book I can read over and over again for the wonderful stories as well as the history. Hope that Kala is going to hit every state-she is THE premier Haunted Guide author and one of the most interesting people herself.
