More About the Author

When I was a child, I shared a bedroom with three of my younger sisters. I used to tell them stories to help them fall asleep. Sometimes, they fell asleep before the stories ended and, unaware, I would keep telling the story, until my mother called up the stairs. "Sue? They've gone to sleep." And then I would quietly finish the story in my head.

I didn't start writing down my stories until much later. In my last year of university, I collected all the reports from my Marketing Group and wrote up our study like a novel. My classmates liked it, and so did the prof.

Eventually, I found a little two-line invitation to a romance writers organization in the back of the Writers Guild magazine, and I showed up. I had found my people.

"Suzanne Stengl has a lovely voice with a subtle hint of humor." A.M. Westerling, author of THE COUNTESS' LUCKY CHARM

"Suzanne Stengl's descriptions and characters are really memorable." Amy Jo Fleming, author of DEATH AT BANDIT CREEK

I've been looking forward to the release of The Ghost and Christie McFee because I'd heard that the mystery of the Bandit Creek Lost Lake treasure would be solved. This novella delivered so much more!

I loved Christie McFee, the heroine, who arrives in Bandit Creek with an agenda that starts out with her first dive. Throughout the story, author Suzanne Stengl skillfully uncovers the heroine's troubled past, reveals many of Bandit Creek's secrets and mysteries, and creates a lovely blend of humor, suspense, and mystery. Even the hero's ex-girlfriend--a notably overused character in many romance novels--is handled with a uniquely awesome twist.

If you've been reading the Bandit Creek series, The Ghost and Christie McFee is a must read. And if you're just discovering the series now, this book will answer so many questions about characters, unsolved mysteries, and events that happened in past novels.

Kudos to the author for writing this wonderfully entertaining story, for making each character count, and for tying everything together so neatly at the end!

This engaging tale of ghosts and sunken treasure, heartache and humor, held me spellbound from page one. I cheered for Christie and her ghost to achieve their goal, and during every moment of danger, I crossed my fingers that Christie's adventure would lead to a happy ending. Excellent story, Ms. Stengl!

Loved the setting, loved the characters, loved the mystery, loved the whole diving experience.

Great job! My only question is, when is your next one coming out Suzanne?

I liked the idea of the ghost town under the lake and the hidden gold legend and the characters of Christie and Gaven are likeable. Unfortunately, for me, the story was somewhat confusing starting with the author not telling us what state the story is set in. Even though the book cover looks like it's somewhere in New England, I finally figured out it must be Montana when Missoula is mentioned. Even though there are two ghosts haunting Christie, there are two other characters (I won't mention so as not to spoil) that appear to also be ghosts or at least be able to see and talk to ghosts, but that's never explained to Christie or to the reader. Also, the ending where Christie dives down to find the gold is too convenient seeing how there have been many tourists through the years trying to find it, and the reason for the "good" ghost helping Christie is confusing. I'm guessing it's to seek revenge on the "bad" ghost, but it's not explained too well. If this is the author's debut book, I'm sure she'll grow as a writer and I'll probably give her another try in the future.

What a charming story! This may be Ms. Stengl's debut novel, but she is clearly a seasoned writer. Her descriptions of the underwater ghost town are fascinating. Her characters are well drawn with compelling pasts and the plot is engaging and fast paced. Of course this story is also a romance (of the sweet variety) and was very satisfying. I'm so glad I picked up this book. I highly recommend it! Five stars!

This is a fun, sweet romance with endearing characters, both real and etherial. Why is Christie forcing herself to dive in a haunted lake and what really lies in wait down at the bottom? I just had to find out. It ties in nicely to Death in Bandit Creek.

With deft skill, Ms Stengl delivers a spooky ghost story blended with a traditional happily-ever-after romance. Christie McFee's guilt and grief over the death of her sister has her teetering on the very edge of emotional collapse - so when a ghost appears with a promise of buried treasure, we share her confusion yet understand her need to do whatever she can to regain control of her life. Gaven St. Michel, a dive master and med student, is understandably drawn to the troubled heroine and wants to protect her from whatever 'ghosts' are haunting her. Ms Stengl's use of detailed description puts the reader in the centre of the underwater diving scenes and provides an unexpected and eerie setting for the ghostly appearances. This is an enjoyable read for any fans of romance and for everyone who has ever enjoyed hearing ghost stories around a campfire.
