Even tops the tour!,
By Dennis Phillips "The Book Friar" (Bulls Gap, Tennessee USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Ghosts of Charleston (Hardcover)
On a recent trip to Charleston I took the walking tour based on this book. The tour was great but the book is better by a mile. Even while standing just outside or in some of the haunted areas mentioned in this fine book one didn't get a feel for the story like you get while reading these stories. All of the hauntings are documented and have been seen by several people adding to the credibility of this work. Everyone who has ever been taken by the beauty and charm of this wonderful old city has to read this book. If you have never been to Charleston read this book and you will want to go there.

A exploration into the haunted history of Charleston,
By Lee Bryant (Charleston, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ghosts of Charleston (Hardcover)
Buxton and Macy were able to capture the essence of Charleston in their new book. I had heard a few of the stories before on their tour, but the book has transcended anythinjg previously covered on the subject of ghosts in Charleston. The book is very well written, and flows nicely from story to story. The photos compliment the stories very well, without becoming a distraction. The story about Fire Station #8 kept me up all night. Excellent book!

A paragon of excellence!,
By Ben Halpern (Charleston, SC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ghosts of Charleston (Hardcover)
I live in Charleston, and I've been on many of the ghost tours, even the author of this book's tour, and this book really brings the stories to life. The stories are very well written, and are very interesting. I didn't believe in ghosts before I read this book, but now I believe in them. I hope they make a sequal to this book with even more ghost stories, because I wouldn't think before buying it. I hope I can meet the authors of this book, because they sound like very interesting people. This book is definitly a paragon of excellence!!!

Well Written for Entertainment Purposes,

This review is from: The Ghosts of Charleston (Hardcover)
I live only 2 hours away from Charleston, SC and my family and I visit the city quite often, especially during the summer. I am a believer in paranormal phenomenon and have personally experienced many things that I have never been able to justify with a rational explanation. During my many visits to Charleston I have been pretty disappointed that I never encountered anything paranormal especially since Charleston is purported to be one of the most haunted cities in the United States. I have taken several of the city's ghost walk tours and have dined in "Poogan's Porch" restaurant on a few occasions (purported to be haunted and one of the stories in the book by the way) but have never so much as had an inkling for the paranormal in the "Holy City." I will admit that there are many creepy old mansions and areas of the city that are pretty spooky, but haunted, who can say for sure? The book itself is very entertaining and I believe the authors did a great deal of research and put much of their own personal interest into it. The history behind the hauntings is interesting as well as the stories of the ghosts themselves. If you like ghost stories, you'll enjoy the book. I don't think anyone can make any real claims as to the authenticity of these hauntings, but nevertheless, the book is very entertaining and a great read. I highly recommend it!

I have read better books,
This review is from: The Ghosts of Charleston (Hardcover)
I just think that there are better books about the haunts in Charleston. Look them up. This is o.k. if you want the history of the building more than the ghost that is in it.

History Mixed With The Supernatural,
By
This review is from: The Ghosts of Charleston (Hardcover)
Buxton and Macy give a thrilling written account of their "Ghosts of Charleston" tour.
While they do relay many of Charleston's most famous ghost stories, they also reveal the hidden history of the supernatural events. From the grotesque floating torso to the frivolous Gentleman's Ghost, the Ghost's of Charleston takes you back to an earlier and in most cases tragic time in the history of the Holy City. Read the book and then go take the tour or vice versa, you will not be disappointed.

Fictional Book,
This review is from: The Ghosts of Charleston (Hardcover)
This book was written to entertain and make a profit. The authors, Macy and Buxton, create incredibly believable storylines throught the seventeen chapter book. However, not all accounts are documented in history. Many characters are fabricated, and as romantic as the stories are, they are a product of pure fantasy. A little digging and research will prove all the stories to be fiction.
