One of five great books in the Ghosts of Gettysburg series by Mark Nesbitt, having read them all, I anxiously await his next. Whether or not you're a believer in the supernatural, these books will touch, educate, and fascinate you. They don't sensationalize, you don't get the feeling you're reading a bunch of goofy ghost stories. He presents the information in a very objective manner, and lets the reader make their own judgement. His research is thorough, he gives great context to the events he describes, and all of these books will grab you from page one. I can't wait for #6! (And if you ever have the opportunity to go to Gettysburg & take one of his tours, definitely do it - they really bring the books to life...)

As a resident about 40 minutes from Gettysburg, we bought these books when they were first published, drove around the battlefield, stopped at each place mentioned, and read aloud the accounts of what occured there. There is one house in particular that was on what became the battlefield and was used for injured soldiers - there is a blood stain on the steps that after all these years and countless cleanings, still will not disappear. This is true, as my aunt visited the house as a young woman and saw the stain herself. And the 'boy' soldier who could not cross the doorway to the 'new' part of the house built after the war to join a party at what is now a building of Gettysburg College. So much more! Good reading, and even better to visit the battlefield books in hand!

I have read Mark Nesbitt's four series of books about the Ghosts of Gettysburg and I must say I was very impressed, both with Mr. Nesbitt's writing techniques as well as with the stories themselves. In writing the stories, Mr. Nesbitt incorporated any history involved with each one, so that the reader was able to learn a little bit about what happened during that fateful battle. So many people take being an American for granted. We should never, ever forget what our ancestors went through to gain the freedom that each of us enjoy and take for granted each and every day. If you are open-minded about the spirit world and even if you aren't and want to learn more about Gettysburg, read these stories. They are very compelling and will keep you in suspense. They will also touch your heart regarding the many tragedies that took place there. Mr. Nesbitt, many compliments to you sir and please keep writing! I look forward to reading your next book on the Ghosts of Gettysburg! I also look forward to hopefully meeting you in person the next time I visit Gettysburg!

Mark Nesbitt's series, Ghosts of Gettysburg (five volumes), consists of some of the best paranormal journalism I have
ever read in years. These books actually kept me awake nights.
I have never been to Gettysburg, Pa, but Mr. Nesbitt makes
you feel as if you are there, complete with all it's colorful
history, and it's hauntings. Mr. Nesbitt seems to be neither
a skeptic or believer, he lets you decide. Don't let the small
page count of each volume fool you, there is a lot to read.
I can hardly wait for volume six.

I have been to Gettysburg 7 times. When I first went as a 8 year old I didn't believe in ghosts but after taking their "Candelight ghost walks" I instantly became obsessed with ghosts. When I say this I speak of all 6 or so books, they each contain easy to read, but powerful stories that sometimes keep you up at night. (Especially when you read the books at Gettysburg!)Mark Nesbitt grew up in Lorain, Ohio so my mom knows him and he knows a lot about ghosts.

I originally purchased this book quite a few many years ago in one of the many Gettysburg gift shops and read so many times, the cover fell off. (Thankfully, Amazon had it in stock!) Mark Nesbitt truly does a wonderful job and his stories are not only varied but give the reader an almost surreal sense of what the people he interviewed were experiencing! So if you enjoy tales of the beyond and Civil war history, this book is for you.

Former Park Ranger Mark Nesbitt has over the years gathered many ghost stories from other park rangers, visitors and people who live in the area. Nesbitt tries to gather factual data on the stories he receives so he can offer a background as to why these ghost stories may have evolved. His stories are usually quite interesting and do not just talk about battlefield soldiers, civilians alike are also involved in famous ghost stories in Gettysburg! Buy all 5 books, there worth it! Each has many short stories that are easy and fun to read.

Mark Nesbitt has done a wonderful job imparting the feel of the Gettysburg Campus and battlefields and their ghostly denizens. As an alumni of Gettysburg College and one who is an ardent hiker of the surrounding military park, Nesbitt has nailed it on the head in his books. The entire series is well researched, documented and has a nifty turn of phrase. He presents each haunting in a straightforward, no-nonsense manner and maintains the perfect balance of skepticism and belief.

I highly recommend the entire series if you are palnning to visit Gettysburg, are interested in Civil War hauntings or just plain want a good scare.

I agree with all of the other reviewers, these are great books, even if you just want to learn about the battle itself. The ammount of research that went into these books is amazing, and well worth it. I am a Civil War buff, and am constantly going back to the books to look up stories. I would recommend it to everybody.

I have read all 4 volumes of Mark's series and I recommend them to anyone interested in Civil War spirits. Mark's writing style is convincing enough that you know the accounts cannot be hoaxes. You can't possibly not believe in ghosts after reading this series. Hope Mark comes out with a volume 5.
