Editorial Reviews

About the Author

I started out, back in the 1970s, as a National Park Service Ranger/Historian in Gettysburg, PA. I knew that I wanted to be a writer, so after five years with the NPS, I got the crazy idea that I should start my own research and writing company. Thus began Interpretive Enterprises. I spent several years as a freelance writer and wondering if I had lost my mind. My first book was a children's book: The Little Drummer Boy. It won an award and boosted my confidence. I had been collecting ghost stories of the Gettysburg area since I first arrived, so I decided to approach a local publisher to see if they'd be interested in a book about the Ghosts of Gettysburg. The first ghost book came out in 1991. Since then, I have written fifteen books, covering topics of historical interest, as well as the paranormal. My stories have been seen on The History Channel, A&E, The Discovery Channel, The Travel Channel, Unsolved Mysteries, The Biography Channel, and numerous regional television shows and heard on Coast to Coast AM, and regional radio. In 1994, I founded "The Ghosts of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking Tours®," a tour based on the stories in my book series. The tour company started out on a card table in the town square. The next year I rented office space at the corner of Baltimore St. and Steinwehr Ave. Finally, in 1997, I purchased the current headquarters building at 271 Baltimore St. In 2006, I expanded into Frederickburg, VA and started the Ghosts of Fredericksburg Tours.

More About the Author

Mark Nesbitt was born in Lorain, Ohio, and graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College with a BA in English Literature. His visits to Gettysburg as a child fueled his passion for history, and ghost stories.
Mark began collecting ghost stories of Gettysburg while working for the National Park Service as a Ranger/Historian and Licensed Battlefield Guide. He published his first collection of ghost stories in 1991 and the rest is history! His passion for, and curiosity about, the paranormal have continued to be a focus in his writings. He started the Ghosts of Gettysburg tours in 1994 and the Ghosts of Fredericksburg Tours in 2006. In 2007, he and Investigative Medium Laine Crosby founded Dead On Productions: a company dedicated to the creation of unique programming combining historical documentary with paranormal reality and adventure. (www.GhostChannel.tv)
The "Ghosts of Gettysburg" video productions featured on the History Channel in 1994 could be considered the genesis of the current fascination with all things related to ghosts and the paranormal.

These types of local and regional ghost books are very popular. This series is one reason for that. It is also one of the best. After a hiatus of a few years, Nesbitt returns with a new collection from the most haunted place in America. If you don't "believe" in ghosts, or have no opinion, this series will get you thinking. Nesbitt also talks a bit about how ghost hunting has exploded in recent years and has also become more scientfic. Physics as well is showing how these paranormal events can happen. It doesn't explain them away, but shows why and how they can occur (Beyond the Cosmos discusses this in regard with the supernatural as far as God is concerned, but applies equally to ghosts).

Out of all of the ghost books I have read, I rate this one tops because it is so honest. It has just the right amount of information to give you a night's scare but also informs from an educated mind. In addition, this book is fun and hard to put down. I own the rest of the collection of these books and with this one you get to know the author more. You also get to know information that would otherwise be off limits to an ordinary ghost hunter tourist to Gettysburg. If there is ever a number VIII I will add it to my collection.

MORE KUDOS FOR MARK NESBITT AND HIS ON GOING SERIES. STILL CAN'T PUT THIS NEW ENTRY DOWN. A HISTORY LESSON AND A TRIP INTO THE SUPERNATURAL. CAN TESTIFY TO THE ACCURACY OF ONE OF HIS STORIES. ONCE HEARD CANNON FIRE AT THE GENERAL LEE MOTEL LATE AT NIGHT THAT SHOOK THE PICTURES ON THE WALL OF THE ROOM WE WERE STAYING IN. LOOK FORWARD TO EACH NEW INSTALLMENT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
