I must be on a mindless reading binge - if nothing else, it's entertaining to read something rather light. That; however, is about all that I can say about this book - it's entertaining. Overall, I found the book to be poorly written and edited. It's filled with story after story about every famous dead actor/actress to ever appear on the silver screen - some of them (such as none other than Marilyn Monroe) seem to pop up everywhere. It would appear as if Hollywood is haunted by every dead member of the Screen Actors Guild. Trite and banal are the hallmarks of this book. Finally, I'm beginning to see a pattern to the modern genre of "haunted stories" books: to paraphrase an overused term by the author, books of this "ilk" are merely snippets of poorly written stories.

I purchased this book hoping that it would be a good, informative read. Alas, this book is not that. Poorly researched and poorly edited, this book is only very mildly interesting. Surprisingly, many accounts of ghostly activity covered in this book are done so in passing, often using sketchy third-hand information from anonymous sources. As if that weren't bad enough, the star ghost hunters featured in the book add uninteresting blather to an already bland and insipid book. Now, really. Are celebrity ghosts as vain as this book makes them out to be? At any rate, this book is mostly filler with a few good factoids scattered hither and thither amongst its pages. Save your money and buy a better researched book on Hollywood ghost lore.

Ghosts of Hollywood does something other ghost books don't. It gives you new stories. I've been working in Hollywood for years, and have heard (or so I thought) every ghost story imaginable. This has new ones, in spades. This book and other volumes by Marla, are well researched, and well written, and most important - they are interesting.
