Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Hollywood has meant many things to many people throughout its illustrious history, but nowadays, Tinseltown is best known for the three G's-Glitz, Glamour, and Ghosts. Read about the celebrity apparitions who touch visitors at the Hollywood Wax Museum with ghostly hands; the phantom bartender at the elegant Yamashiro Restaurant who startles diners; the lively spirits at The Formosa Café who drink right along with the customers. You won't want to miss Clift Montgomery's bugle call at The Hollywood Roosevelt ; Janis Joplin's presence at the Highland Gardens Hotel; Bela Lugosi's daily visit to the famous intersection of Hollywood and Vine; and the final resting place for dozens of Hollywood luminaries at The Hollywood Forever Cemetery. There are curses and murder and mayhem aplenty, for in Hollywood the show still goes on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ghosts of Hollywood, June 15, 2008

This is a fascinating read - I hated to put it down. It's too bad the spirits do not like to be on camera; perhaps they prefer to be remembered as they were.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very little substance, April 20, 2008
By BookMan (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) - See all my reviews

I must be on a mindless reading binge - if nothing else, it's entertaining to read something rather light. That; however, is about all that I can say about this book - it's entertaining. Overall, I found the book to be poorly written and edited. It's filled with story after story about every famous dead actor/actress to ever appear on the silver screen - some of them (such as none other than Marilyn Monroe) seem to pop up everywhere. It would appear as if Hollywood is haunted by every dead member of the Screen Actors Guild. Trite and banal are the hallmarks of this book. Finally, I'm beginning to see a pattern to the modern genre of "haunted stories" books: to paraphrase an overused term by the author, books of this "ilk" are merely snippets of poorly written stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Hollywood Ghost Book, February 23, 2008
By Mortal Bard (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
Brooks, a lifelong scholar of the supernatural, has compiled the ultimate collection of Tinseltown hauntings. It's both referential and readable - sort of like a Zagat Guide to the spookiest places. Well done!
